DH-87 "Thunderbird Heavy" Gunship . "Thun-der! Na na na na na na naaaa" - AC/DC . Please enjoy the following promotional material for the Colonial Liberation Corps' latest in air-based technology. This the DH-87 "Thunderbird Heavy" gunship. It is VTOL-capable with thrust-vectoring power plants and adjustable control surfaces. It's armament consists of a quad-barrel 75mm auto cannon under the nose (basically the same as the AP-9 Barricade APC), 12 air-to-ground or air-to-air missiles, and two 8-barrel miniguns on either side of the fuselage. Builder's note: I listened to Thunderstruck by AC/DC on loop while building this. 1. Your Ground Attack Aircraft MOC is minifig scale and must accommodate 2 pilots. - Nailed it. 2. Your Ground Attack Aircraft requires wings that must be photographed at 2 distinct angles. (up/down, straight/swept back, etc.) - Nailed it twice; the thrusters rotate 360 degrees and the winglets/control surfaces also vector. 3. Your Ground Attack Aircraft must feature 3 distinct weapon systems. - Nailed it. Actually surpassed it a little bit. 4. Your Ground Attack Aircraft must include at least 1 air intake. - It's got 4. Nailed it. I knew from the beginning that I wanted a bird-themed name for the gunship because of the nose I came up with. I felt that the nose of the Thunderbird Heavy looked vaguely like an eagle or falcon. The DH-87 is a mainstay in the Colonial Liberation Corps. Thunderbird Heavies are deployed by all CLC military branches (Army, Air Command, Naval Command, and Space Command). Some have been converted to civilian use as light cargo shuttles and rescue vehicles. The DH-87 remains in service in great numbers due to its flexibility and tactical usefulness in multiple engagements. VTOL action! When focusing on a target, particularly a ground-based target, the Thunderbird Heavy can deploy the control surfaces as dive brakes to slow its descent and therefore put more fire on its target. In the landed mode, the adjustable wing/control surfaces flare out so the massive thrusters can clear the ground. The Thunderbird features a loading ramp in the back for access to the cockpit. Like all vehicles deployed by the CLC, the Thunderbird Heavy also proudly displays the flag and insignia of the Colonial Liberation Corps. Here are our two fearless pilots! On the left is pilot Allison Young, and on the right is Co-pilot and gunner Jon Scott. The cockpit features an array of control systems. It also features enough storage for some supplies, including weapons for our two crewmembers But wait... There's more... Meet the DH-87A Thunderbird "Super Heavy". This up-armored variant of the standard Thunderbird Heavy features two massive rail guns in ADDITION to its normal armament. Evil-doers beware. Thanks for looking!
