Microscale Geared Container Ship . A microscale model of a small geared container ship. . This model is my attempt to build a container ship at a scale of 5 ft./stud (1:190). Because a large container ship would be enormous at this scale (almost 7 ft. long), I decided instead to build a small "feeder" container ship, capable of transporting somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,000 TEU of cargo. Many of these smaller container ships are "geared," meaning that they are outfitted with their own cranes, so that they can service ports with limited infrastructure. Here's a pic showing a Hamilton class USCG cutter, with its embarked MH-65 Dolphin, along with a land-based MH-60 Jayhawk, coming to the aid of a disabled container ship.
