Porsche 959 Speed Champions Style . This is my Speed Champions style Porsche 959 supercar from the 1980's. . I decided that it needed to be 8 studs wide in order to add all the critical details. These details inlcude: The fender flares. The round side intakes. The rounded front and rear corners. The way the rocker panels angle up towards the standard Porsche 911 doors. "Basket handle" type wing on the rear. I took a while for me to find a new way to slant the headlights so they are angled back. I used click joints under the front trunk lid and they run all the way back to under the windshield. The only sticker is the Porsche crest from the Speed Champions sets. I thought about using the 918 vent stickers but decided that they would take away from the shape. The mudguards are not available in light bluish gray, so I got them in flat silver metallic. Unfortunately the rest of the car is light bluish gray as I could not all the parts I used are made in flat silver metallic. Its a compromise for the time being, until I can either build it in all one color or the other. Here is a closeup of the side of the car showing the intakes. I'd be smiling like that too if I was driving a 959! Closeup of the rear of the car showing the gap under the "Basket handle" type wing. Here is a real 959 that I saw earlier this year at Cars and Caffee in Sadlebrook, NJ. The yellow 911 with the dark windows in the row behind the 959 is my car. This is about as close to automotive greatness as I'm going to get!
