Raxonax, Whole Again . Whoo hoo! Here we go people, the last ever Contenders MOC! We've come so far, folks- and how fitting that it should be my Self MOC, Raxonax- reimagined as a being reunited, at last...! . “Hi, my name’s Raxonax: I am a Toa of Gravity, and- I’m whole again.”
-Raxonax, The Contenders #49
Raxonax is a Toa of Gravity and a member of the Contenders. He is a fierce and brutish fighter, which can serve as both an advantage and a detriment, given the context. Out of battle, he demonstrates a certain quietness, content to quietly observe conversations around him, though he is not above joining in with light humour; with this in mind, he does have a dark side, brought out by his conflict with the malevolent Shadonax, his super-ego, which pushed him to the edge of his sanity; fortunately, in the end, he finally made peace with his inner demons.
Raxonax lived as a Ba-Matoran on Racta Magna, before being abducted by the enigmatic being known as the Jankori, who experimented intensely on him. This caused the Matoran’s mind to split into three: Toa Raxonax, the Ego; Idonax, the Id; Shadonax, the Super-Ego. Each of these creatures went their own separate ways, with Raxonax training to be a Toa in the city of Racta Major. Around this time, he met Toa Galia, with whom he had a temporary flirtation, and Clank, an eccentric robot who remained their friend until the very end. However, it did not take long for the malicious Shadonax to emerge from hiding and harangue the trio. After a few brief encounters, the duo finally clashed, with Raxonax emerging as the victor and Shadonax vanishing into the night.
Though their romantic ventures ended rather quickly, Raxonax and Galia remained fighting partners, with Clank at their side. Together, the three of them moved out of Racta Major and took up a home in a lonely cave in the wastes. Despite moving away, they aided their fellow warriors, the Toa Racta of Racta Major, on a number of excursions; the most prominent of these was in the Toa’s final fight with the Sombrak, a horde of Makuta led by the tyrannical Aroxion, who had attacked the city. Many years later, he and Galia would later be invited to join the Contenders, a new Toa team to replace the retired Toa Racta, alongside Toa Dorru, Montu, Cilla and Takathorax; their first mission was to find Makuta Reshak and stop him from resurrecting the fallen Aroxion.
While the Contenders were thus occupied, Shadonax emerged from hiding once again, roused by a psychic spark between him and Raxonax; he exploited this further, immersing his foe in psychotic visions and driving him to the brink of insanity; this culminated when Raxonax accidentally struck down his ally Cilla, confusing her for Shadonax. Aided by the city’s Turaga, he entered into a meditative state where he confronted Shadonax, arranging a time and place for their final confrontation. After Makuta Reshak was finally defeated, the Contenders confronted Shadonax and his gang in battle. Raxonax ended up slaying his foe, decapitating him at the moment he threatened Galia’s life; this heralded the appearance of Idonax, the final piece of the trinity.
However, unlike Shadonax, Idonax turned out to befriend with the Toa, and they parted in goodwill. Soon after this, the Contenders would get tied up in an affair with the Hero Factory, as they pledged to protect Mary Windbird against a gang of villains, led by the vengeful Dread; the situation would complicate upon learning that Windbird was inadvertently responsible for the genocide of Dread’s people, though the Toa decided to shelter her regardless. It was during a confrontation with one of these villains, Voltwhip, that Raxonax reunited with Idonax, and learned that together they formed a powerful synergy. Idonax returned home with the Toa, but did not participate in the final battle with Dread, in which he was defeated, but at the cost of Windbird’s life.
Sometime later, Raxonax learned that Shadonax had been resurrected by magical means; he set out with Idonax to confront his old foe, only to end up being killed. Following this, Shadonax conquered Racta Major with the help of the similarly resurrected Aroxion. Raxonax would eventually be brought back by Shadonax himself, who proceeded to gloat about his newfound empire. After an attempt to free the city from within, Raxonax escaped and retreated to the realm of Racta Minus, where he assembled a group of rebels to attack the city; while this occurred, he, Idonax and Shadonax prepared for the final confrontation; however, the three of them ended up merging into one being and, with the Contenders’ help, defeated Aroxion and freed Racta Major.
Raxonax left the experience with a sense of wholeness, finally reunited with the other parts of his psyche; he is currently with the Contenders in Racta Magna, recovering from their final clash with Aroxion.
Here we go! The main inspiration for the design I went with was that little Matoran MOC I made for Contenders #38, in addition to Raxonax himself of course- I also decided to add a little extra flare to him as well, given he's the final form and all, hence the prongs on his back and the extra height.
Back; nothing too spicy back here, but it gets the job done!
I should probably point out that with the exception of the skull, this guy is fully custom, feet an all!
Height comparison with Tahu Uniter, 'cause why not?!
The Contenders all together!
With Idonax: the Id, the unconscious, the 'It'.
With Shadonax: the Super-Ego, the conscience, the 'Above I'.
With Raxonax, the Ego, the conscious, the 'I'.
Apart they are flawed, imperfect. Together, they are complete...
...also, Chains Legacy? What's that?
That's all folks! The last Contenders should be out next Friday, but if not, then it'll be out at some point in the week after that. See you then! :D
