My first LEGO warship model on a scale of 1: 200. Soviet/Russian missile destroyer "Sovremenny" (pr.956 "Sarych"), LDD+PovRay
About this creation

Guided missile destroyer pr.956 "Sarich" ("Buzzard"). Originally created as a assault ship for amphibious force. That is why the "Sovremenny" has such a powerful artillery armament - by weight artillery salvo, it is comparable with a volley Battlecruiser era dreadnoughts. Adding a murderous anti-ship supersonic missiles "Mosquito" and high-effective SAM "Uragan" made this a very dangerous ship in a naval battle. So, in 1989 on the teachings of the Pacific Fleet destroyer "Battle" knocked down 6 supersonic missiles, attack ships at the same time from different directions. In a duel situation he still has no equal.

Destroyer "Otlichny", the third ship in the series, the Northern Fleet.

POV-Ray render.

Moving to a larger scale has improved model detail.

Deck helicopter Ka-27.

Full hull version.

Compare with 1:350 scale and 1:700 scale destroyer.

The Sovremenny-class destroyer escorts aircraft carrier "Admiral Kuznetsov"

Assembly process. The model has a length of 104 studs and consists of 1721 bricks (1417 - above waterline)

High resolution render

Quoting Jimmie Martinez The enlarged shot of the high res render shows all the detail to the nth degree and the absolute brilliance of the Rear Admiral who designed it. BOAJDTAP 100/100. And keep up the amazing work that you do.
Thanks for the kind words Jimmie!

Quoting Anders T I really like the shot where you compare the different scales. This shows what is the challenge on each one. Something we all struggle with.
Thank You, Anders! You are absolutely right. Each scale has its own difficulties. And, probably, there is an optimal scale for the model of each ship. At least it is not always possible to make the model better with enlarging the scale - it seems that there are more details, but all the flaws have become more visible))) Therefore, I like to build on predetermined shipbuilding scales with their tight boundaries. This makes me "smash my head" to simulate the appearance of the ship as accurately as possible.

Thank You, Nick! It is a pity that I do not have so many real bricks! :)

Thank You, James! Yes, if it is built from real bricks, then the length of the model will be about 80 cm.

Quoting Tom's MOCs The detailing is terrific, and the high-resolution large-format images (esp the final one) are very educational for someone like me who continues to try to improve my modeling skills - it lets me recognize particular Lego pieces you have used and what you did with them in order to achieve your intended visual effects.
Thank You, Tom!

Quoting Oliver Becker 110% naval history in LEGO, my friend! Your fable for details never felt here! So your destroyer is more a "connector"... ;) Greets to SP!
Thanks, Oliver! I am very flattered! :)

Quoting Max P. I know what it means to change the scale (I'm just working on 3rd 8-wide now). Your Sovremenny is really beautiful, packed with details and just epic!

Quoting BATOH rossi magnificent! I hope you will find the time to build your fleet on this scale :) the amount of detail is truly remarkable ... it would deserve the POV-Ray at least 1000 800;)
Thank you my friend. Yes, I began to rebuild a number of ships on this scale. The rendering settings are 1280 x 720. Low resolution is a limitation of this site. I will add a direct link to the image from Flickr.

Quoting David H. This looks wonderful! Your builds are always superb, and the history with the builds is much appreciated!
Thank You, David! Yes, there are much more possibilities for detailing the model on a larger scale. But the complexity and time of construction also increased greatly.
