The Tiger II replaced an Oshkosh Striker 4500 that was too large to maneuver through some areas of the city. Even though some water and foam capacity were sacrificed, this this rig still packs a punch with its bumper mounted monitor and the HRET.
About this creation
The Tiger II is a custom design provided by SSV.
The compartments in the rig store various equipment. Rear shows the access ladder to the top of the rig
Foam 1 has proved its worth time and again in different situations requiring the unique firefighting capabilities of this rig. While primarily focused on oil and chemical fires, this rig works great on brush/grass fires as the 4x4 capabilities allow the rig to travel over uneven terrain. With the spray nozzles underneath the apparatus, the rig simply needs to drive over hot spots to fully extinguish the fire!
The compartments in the rig store various equipment.
The HRET can reach up to 50 ft in the air!
The HRET has a piercing nozzle that can pierce the fuselage of airplanes and tankers
Foam Task Force 1 is made up of Foam 1 (rear) and Satellite 1 (front). Both are staffed by a dedicated apparatus operator, who drives the apparatus to the scene and operates the rig as necessary.
Foam 1 is an SSV Tiger II designed for foam operations. Due to high risk locations such as the port, oil and chemical storage facilities, and industrial areas, the department deemed it necessary to have a unit capable of delivering foam or other firefighting agents to put out fires that cannot be extinguished by water. Foam 1 and Satellite 1 form the Foam Task Force which can be deployed anywhere in the city at a momentís notice.
