Slagpot Carrier
Steel-Mill Slagpot Carrier vehicle
About this creation
This is my 600-pcs steel-mill slagpot carrier!

Slag is unusable material that accumulates in steel production, the scorching hot slag is collected in so called slagpots and then transported out of the facility via train or special vehicles. The slag then gets dumped in slag yards outside the steel mill.

The vehicles that transport those slag pots which weigh up to 120 tons and contain 1400 c / 2552F molten slag have to meet high safety standards due to the extreme environment they operate in and due to the dangerous cargo they transport.

This vehicle can pick up, transport the slag pots and dump the slag. The pot is controlled via two actuators which can be operated via the grey discs on each side of the vehicle. Steering gets close to 90 for maneuverability and it has a tilting suspension for the bumpy slag yard roads.

Hope you like it!

Quoting Nick Barrett An under-appreciated machine. Nice to see something so unusual done so well.
Thank you! I've never seen a slagpot carrier made with LEGO - which is a shame since they are quite cool machines. So I made one. :D

Quoting Henrik Jensen Certainly very unusual to see vehicles like this made with LEGOs, but indeed very cool!, (or HOT) :-) Excellent MOC!
Thanks! I love doing unusual stuff in LEGO. :D

Quoting Jeremy McCreary Excellent! As a child, I had a pretty clear view of the blast furnaces at the Bethlehem Steel plant from my grandmother's house in Johnstown, PA. Couldn't make out these beasts from that distance, but you couldn't miss the mountains of slag, so I'm sure they were there.
Must have been quite interesting to live this near to a steel mill. I once got a tour in one of the worlds largest steel mills, unfortunately they used trains to haul the slag. :(
