My Farewell to MOCPages
About this creation
This is my last post on MOCPages Ė at least until very basic reforms will happen in the management of the site:
- Too much childish garbage,
- Too much server outages,
- Too much of Seanís negligence.
We had a great time together, guys, and I hope that we will meet again at Flickr, Bricklink or wherever we find correctly managed home for our community.

I totally agree with you on all those points. I have considered leaving MOCpages many times before. Now I just copy and paste what I wrote on my Flickr post and put that up. The management of this site is appalling and very frustrating at times.

Quoting Jeremy McCreary Thanks! Maybe we should start a support group for recovering MOCpages members.
I started MOCPages Expatriates Group at Flickr and invited 40-50 distinguished builders from MOCPages.

Quoting Jeremy McCreary Tell me about the "deep links" you mentioned for Flickr. Inserted as standard HTML?
If you inserted a link in your MOCPages post, and you copy that via clipboard into Flickr image description text, it will work. During saving it will be automatically aligned to Flickr syntax: <a href="http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/gjpauler/mbfc/mbfcbikeanim.gif"; rel="nofollow">SEE ANIMATION!</a>

Quoting Jeremy McCreary Say it isn't so, my friend! We'll miss your sense of humor, your wild (if rather dark) imagination, your LEGO engineering skills -- and of course, your pretty female agents. Your departure will bring MOCpages one step closer to total domination by Speed Champions, pop culture, and monsters. (Nothing wrong with any of those genres, mind you. I just want MOCpages to showcase more than a small corner of the LEGO realm.) You and I have similar page formatting needs -- especially the ability to intersperse images and explanatory/embellishing text. Since I have yet to find that anywhere else -- and certainly not on Flickr -- I've been considering my own LEGO blog. How on Earth are you going to make your presentations work on Flickr??
This was my biggest worry and reason of not using Flickr so long. But Jeremy, think about that 85% of young people cannot read + understand continous text information anyway. Dyslexia became a widespread disease in recent years. As a teacher I already learnt from experience that I have to abandon writing classic textbooks to get understood. I see writing my teaching materials, and even I see Flickr albums as COMIC BOOKS: you have sequence of pictures as eyecatcher, and you should be able to break up even difficult reasoning into short paragraphs to be attached to sequence of pictures. Its not always successful, but I am trying my best - check out my Flickr albums.

Quoting Emmett Martens Every site i go on somebody is leaving for these reasons, must be a trend XD well, good luck to you, hope your lego creations do well on other pages. im on flickr too.
There is a fluctuation on any site, this is quite a natural. But, just think about messing up Decisive Action 3 Final - that was not really natural! It induced an exit wave, while with correct management it could have been the last chance of revival MOCPages. Epic Fail.

Quoting Luuk S I completely understand your departure here even though it also saddens me. This community indeed deserves better maintenance. As far as childish comments and other stuff go, well Lego /is/ a toy for childen. We were all children one day after all...
It is interesting that on other sites it is solved with setting up different classes among builders. Of course children are encouraged to build and post. But undiscriminated mixing of their work with highly trained AFOL's stuff is unfair, devaluating childrens work. Moreover it makes the site very-very boring.

Congratulations on making your future happen rather than being tied down to this quagmire. The community evolved, Mocpages did not. We are all out there on Flickr and other sites and look forward as always to your builds and contributions there. Welcome to the next stage of your building life and cheers to you for closing the door on this one!

Quoting Tom's MOCs Your decision is understood because your feelings about this site are widely shared. Your comments about the MOCs posted by others are informative, so even if you do not post your new designs, I for one certainly hope that you visit to add remarks for the benefit of the rest of us who may post models here a while longer. Thank you for all your contributions!
Thanks. I will check posts here sometimes also.

Quoting Per Bonde I also agree on most of it. I still post here. But since I make instructions to all my builds, I now use Rebrickable.com as my main site. Maybe you should give it a try?
I already worked out a solution to keep all images and LDD-files at Brickshelf, which is primitive but reliable site. From there I can include deep links in text into Flickr image descriptions (or in any other site). This way I could solve that flicker does not play GIFs (only seeing the original image, but not in the photo album). GIFs and LDD models are linked from Brickshelf. This way, migrating my whole work (ca. 960 images and 1000 LDD models) from MOCPages to Flickr took 12 days, daily 4 hours not more.

Quoting Seaman SPb I agree with all the arguments. I'm still here, but only with one foot...
Technically, it is not very difficult to upload all images and LDD files e.g. at Brickshelf, and insert deeplinks in text at MocPages and Flickr parallelly. BUT, then Sean will not learn from anything...
