Character intro for First Galactic Civil War era of SWRP
About this creation

I'm going to die. We all must sometime, I suppose. So allow me to clarify. I'm going to die right now.

My name is Kane Drylak. Until a few days ago I was the Director of the Imperial Department of Resources. I lived a privileged life. I had even as a child and I never knew anything else. I was born to wealthy parents on Muunilinst. There I was able to form connections that eventually helped me climb up the ranks of the Empire.

I enjoyed my job. On a daily basis I was going to various galas and fundraisers and meeting the members of the Imperial elite. I had come to a point where the little amount of work I was putting in did not justify the large sums of money I was earning.

One of my closest friends was Nilis Faigen. He helped me manage our organization. Together we worked to colonize, develop, and extract minerals from star systems. We had multiple energy mining operations on various planets such as Mimban. Considering our positions were at the top of the department, we were making the most money. But that wasn't enough. We wanted more. So we decided to appropriate funds from our organization for ourselves. For a while it went well. No one suspected a thing. But then we got greedy.

As more and more credits rolled in, it was becoming harder to mask our activities. Faigen's greed did not only apply to money, however. He desired power as well. So what did he do? Well he betrayed me. He diverted all suspicion away from himself by informing the authorities that I was committing fraud.

I was arrested on charges of embezzlement while Nilis was able to take over my position as Director. I was absolutely infuriated. But there was nothing I could do. So I let the Stormtroopers take me. We boarded a shuttle to head to Coruscant where I would face trial and undoubtedly be jailed.

I was not sure whether it was fate or karma but half way through our journey, we were caught in a comet storm. The pilot attempted maneuvering through the storm as best he could but the ship had taken too much damage.

We crashed on a swamp planet. I was unaware at the time that the planet was actually Mimban.

I had passed out on impact but after a few moments began to regain consciousness. The cabin of the shuttle was filled with smoke from the surrounding flames. I looked at the Stormtroopers. One had been crushed by a piece of framework from the shuttle that had broken off. The other had been impaled by something. They were dead. A look into the cockpit showed the pilot slumped in his chair. Presumably he had died also. So I was alone. I attempted to get out of my seat but the safety bars were jammed in place.

I was beginning to panic. The flames were growing closer and it was becoming harder to breath. Then suddenly I heard the rear boarding ramp being pried open. In came an officer.

Officer: "You alright?"
Kane: “Get me out of here!”

The officer, as I would later find out, was Commander Cyprus Cullen. He led a battalion that was currently engaged in a battle with the local population of Mimban. I had crashed near their base.

The military man pulled me out of the wreckage and dragged me away just before the craft exploded.

Kane: “What planet is this?”
Cyprus: “Only one mud ball like this in the System. My friend, you're on Mimban.”

I had many operations on this planet but I had never actually been here. It was disgusting. I needed to get off. I realized I might have just found myself an opportunity. My guards had been killed and the Commander didn't know I was on my way to prison. I thought I could use him to aid my escape but it didn't exactly work out like that.

Cyprus: “I'm Commander Cyprus Cullen. Our base is not too far from here,” he said as he led me there. “Who might you be?”

I had to quickly decide how to respond. If I told him my real name, someone might find me. So I made one up.

Kane: “I am… Mortoss. Valken Mortoss.”
Not the best name but I had to think on my feet and it was what popped into my head.

Cyprus: “I take it you're Imperial. That's good, we need soldiers.”
Kane: “Soldier?” I laughed. “No, no, you'll have to find someone else for that. I'm an Imperial Director.”
Cyprus: “You don't look like a Director to me.”

I tried to point out my white uniform but it was now dirty and torn and my rank plaque had fallen off.

Cyprus: “Where's your plaque?”
Kane: “It must have fallen off.”
Cyprus: “Mmhmm. Director of what exactly?”
Kane: “The Department of Resources.”
Cyprus: “Now that's definitely made up.”

Kane: “I can assure you that it isn't. I have a mining operation here, I must get there,” I said thinking I would be safer in a familiar location. There I could gather some things and make a plan.
Cyprus: “Is it in Lader?”
Kane: “Yes,” I replied, surprised he was familiar with it.
Cyprus: “You can't go there. Lader was taken over by the insurgents.”

Wonderful. But surely that was costing Nilis some money.

Kane: “Can you get me a ship? I need to get off-world.”
Cyprus: “If you haven't noticed, we’re in the middle of a battle here. You think we got ships to spare? You're stuck here for now.”

I frowned when he said this. Mimban seemed to be the filthiest place in the galaxy. It was literally covered in mud. The heat, the smells, I couldn't stand it!

Kane: “So what do I do?”
Cyprus: “You believe in the Empire?”

It seemed like a random question but I suppose I did. Although perhaps I should have admitted it differently if I had known what Cyprus was getting at.

Kane: “Of course I do.”
Cyprus: “Then fight for it.”

The Commander was adamant in making me a soldier. He refused to listen to my protests and logical arguments of how I had never even held a blaster.

So they slapped a uniform on me, which I am almost certain someone had died in, shoved an E-11 in my hand and threw me in the trenches. I had no idea what I was doing. Out of my comfort zone could not possibly be any more understated. But I did not seem to have many other options. If I attempted to call for help, they'd likely come for me to take me to prison. While this was a vile place, at least I was free.

So I came up with a plan. I would survive this battle. I would work to take down that double crosser, Nilis, and hopefully find a way to return to my life. But first I had to fight. I tried, I really did. I followed the other troops and charged through the trenches but about three minutes after the fighting had resumed, a stray blaster bolt found its way into my leg. I fell to the ground in immense pain. More pain than I had ever experienced.

But that wasn't the worst part. Because then a thermal detonator rolled over next to me. The flashing red light indicated that it was active. So I realized this was the end. I never expected it to be like this. I wish I had done things differently. But my regrets would not matter soon because I was going to die.

This intro may seem sudden but I really felt like doing a Star Wars story lol. The Mimban stuff from Solo was honestly very inspiring... I'm not sure how active I'll be in SWRP because I still want to focus mainly on The Insurgency. But I already had ideas how to continue this story so perhaps I'll make a couple more posts sometime.

And hopefully this post and format is acceptable. I haven't really seen any actual stories in SWRP (except like Traykar's intro), it mostly seems to be character bios... So I wasn't sure what to model it off.

Wow! That is really cool, man! I'll admit that I probably won't join this group for the same reason you quoted, but this looks really cool nonetheless. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on your story here. Hopefully you can find a way to do both well. Keep it up!

I personally prefer standard Prose over a script format when writing. Cool intro, and I look forwards to seeing where this goes.

You'd think this style intro should have caught on by now. This really brought SWRP to life in my mind. Great work!

True, although I kinda used the wrong word. 'Literary style' would be more appropriate, but regardless. Still a great intro, you've got a lot of potential!

Quoting Underscore Maverick Well I gotta say, it's quite good for a character intro. Although most players here just write in first person, not like a script where you put "(Character): *dialogue*" But it could work, I don't really mind. Regardless, great intro!
Thanks! But it is still in first person even though I used the script style.
