"Knife 2-6, break right! Alright Knife squadron, stay low to the surface - the turrets can't fire below level"
About this creation
The Crusader Mk. III was the final evolution of the Crusader platform before the end of the Federation War. It would be this fighter that would be crucial in disarming the Typhon II command station.
The Mk. III added heavier armour than the venerable Mk. II, but compensated by nearly tripling the power output available by using a quad-core reactor system.
The general shape of the Crusader frame remained consistent throughout the fighter's development, but the Mk. III was easily the sleekest and fastest of the Crusaders.
Known for their high-speed maneuverability, and powerful multi-phase shielding, the Crusaders were far larger than most of the ICNC fighter craft, but could rival most corvettes in terms of damage output.
Armed with two twin-barreled cross-ventilated plasma cannons, the Crusader Mk. III's reflected the changing combat philosophy of both sides of the war, and the shift from missile-focus to a preference for guns. Cross-ventilation allowed for better heat dispersal than older weapons, and as such the Mk. III's could fire faster, for extended period of time.
Pilots relished flying the Mk. IIIs, given their responsive handling, powerful weapon systems, and suit of onboard safety systems that served to ensure the highest rate of pilot survival of any of the fighters of the Federation War.
