”Look, she’s not pretty, she’s not that fast, but she’s got spirit! Well…I mean… some of the time anyway. On a good day she’s got spirit. But you can’t deny she’s a tough old thing.”
Captain Bombarius Howler
Due to the ever-expanding nature of war, the Unified Lycan Coalition realised that they needed a way to quickly transport troops, supplies and machines to and from the various battlefields that engulf the planet. This was their answer; the ULC Ahklut.
Pronounced Ack-Lut, after the Inuit ocean spirit, this beast of a ship was designed to haul small to medium freight across the ocean. However, it’s primary function in recent times has been transporting the ULC’s primary APC vehicle, the Pitbull.
Due to a thick hull and small in built deflector shield, the Ahklut can take a pounding and come out relatively unscathed. However, this high level of defence comes at the cost of speed, meaning that the Ahklut is put at a disadvantage when pitted against quicker boats.
This is why each Akhlut comes equipped with a smaller raft with a much higher speed. Nicknamed the ‘Fin’, this raft can be easily deployed at any time, allowing for both quick-scouting and providing a means of rapid fire retaliation.
When not in use, the Fin can be stored in the rear of the Ahklut, as seen here.
However, the Akhlut is by no means defenceless by itself. Directly underneath the Captain’s Wheelhouse sits the vessel’s pride and joy; the Assimilator Cannon. Due to it’s size, the cannon cannot rotate, but the beams that it fires are more than capable of shredding heavy armour.
Even when waterlogged, the wolves know how to bite.
Here we can see the ramp that allows the Pitbull to exit the vessel, ready to land on a beach near you!
The Akhut’s wheelhouse is packed with advanced detection and sonar technology to aid in enemy detection. As mentioned above, the vessel’s speed (or lack thereof) can be a limiting factor, so the crew needs to know the best course to plot to avoid open combat, or to position themselves to deliver the full force of the Assimilator to the enemy.
We can also see Captain Bombarius Howler in his natural habitat. Almost half of the ULC is made up of, well, Lycanthropes, and Captain Howler is one of the more prominent. He’d say a few words, but he’s probably busy.
Below the Wheelhouse is the Gunner’s quarters, where the Gunner arms, primes and fires the Assimilator Cannon. Only the most steely-eyed weaponry veterans are allowed to operate this monster of a gun.
The Akhlut’s crew, from left to right. Captain Bombarius Howler, Gunner Stanley D. Mann and Seaman Roger Taylor. You couldn’t ask for a finer crew…seriously, it’s not possible.
