Brewtopian Imperial Air Force F/A-110 Beerhog
DA3 Ground Attack Aircraft (CAT 10)
About this creation
The F/A-110 Beerhog is the most advanced ground attack aircraft in the Brewtopia Imperial Air Force's arsenal. It is capable of delivering a vast array of ordnance and, with its variable-geometry wings, it can streak to the target area at speeds in excess of Mach 2.

These first two pictures show the Beerhog with its wings in the spread position. In the cockpit is the pilot Lt. Col. John "Big Noodle" Thomas and his co-pilot/WSO Maj. Dick "Beer Goggles" Johnson.

Take note of the Beerhog's weapon systems:

(1) A pair of 25mm chain guns located under the nose.

(2) 4 x BLU-209 LGBBB (laser-guided beer-barrel bomb). Each of these bombs has a payload of 1000 liters of high-octane malt liquor and a Paveway guidance system that the Brewtopian Defense Ministry managed to get from the US DoD in exchange for a few cases of Bud (what a bunch of dummies). These babies are absolutely guaranteed to get the target "bombed."

(3) 2 x wingtip AIM-222 "Buzzkill" air-to-air missles. The Beerhog is a ground-pounder first and foremost, but it usually carries a few AAMs for self-defense.

The Beerhog is powered by a pair of GE F210 afterburning turbofans, each capable of generating 17,000 lbs. of thrust. The intakes are located on each side at the leading edge of the wing root.

This final picture shows the Beerhog in its wings-swept, "fast" configurtion - the preferred configuration for buzzing the tower after a victorious mission.

Quoting Jack Sparrow Excell Aircraft. This fits your style perfectly and is a real-world type of aircraft, thus earning my respect. Love it. :-)
Thanks. Real-world models are where I'm most comfortable, but I a feeling that I might have to get a little more creative with the new category (Ranger - CAT16).

Quoting Scott Bertaut I love aircraft with variable swept wings, this is fantastic. The camo paint job is great, and I like the weapons you've designed. I do have one criticism though, those tires you used for the jets look kind of out of place IMO. Great job overall!
Thanks. In retrospect, I think you are right - the tires should be larger. If I ever redo this MOC, I'll be sure to make that change.

Quoting Kingdomview Bricks Excellent! It's great to see a realistic modern aircraft, and that camo works great!
Thanks. Realistic builds are my comfort zone, so I'm likely to stay there for most of the categories, even if I do add a few goofy features to them.

Thanks. I might want to try redoing the shaping on this one, but the camo is about as good as I think I can make it.

Quoting Sam Sanister Is that desert camouflage? I suppose that'd help keep the troops from getting too 'dry'. ;)
It's beach camouflage. When we're not fighting, we like to dig our toes into the sand and suck back a few cold ones.

Quoting Werewolff Studios 'Wasn't sure if I could pull off a modern aircraft'. Mate, this is incredible! The camo-colour scheme and weapon systems are brilliantly done! You most definitely pulled it off.
Thanks. I had a feeling the camo would be a crowd pleaser, so I went the extra mile (although it felt more like an extra 100 miles).

Quoting Northern Imperial AKA-Lord Bacca Dude! Incredible! Dude!
Thanks. Wasn't sure if I could pull off a modern aircraft, since I've spent most of my time building ships, but it seems to have come out pretty well. I'd definitely change a few things if I were to do it over again, though.

Quoting The Supreme Soggy Overlord of Moist Melons Wow, I really like it. Your builds are great! What design program do you use?
Thanks. I use LDD to do the design, and LDD2POVray to do the render. Because of the time pressure in DA3, these renders are done in "fast" mode and are lower quality than I would normally use. Unfortunately, I have also been unable to use the Mecabricks render engine (which has excellent quality) for most of these builds, since it currently doesn't support a number of the parts that I have used.

Quoting Jeremy McCreary Some of the best aircraft camouflage I've seen, Mark! Question about strategy, though: Are the malt liquor bombs meant to get the enemy even more intoxicated than your own troops? If not, why waste perfectly good brew on them?
Thanks. The key difference is that our troops function better fully intoxicated. We're counting on the fact that most others won't be so effective.

Quoting BATOH rossi well Mark, read me in thought ... you are doing (at a speed for me unreachable) all models that I have been planning for some time! it's a beautiful and realistic attack plane ... I'd like to see some more details about the landing gear.
Thanks. I guess great mind think alike, or something like that. The landing gear are nothing special - just a set of shaft connected to downward-facing studs on the underside of the aircraft with cones. They won't take too much of a pounding before they'll fall off, but they'll easily support the weight of the aircraft just standing still.

Quoting Master Shifu Leo J Laser-guided beer-barrel bomb FTW! Is there a commercial beer keg version?
Thanks. Our team is still working on the commercial version, but it should be ready soon.

Quoting Zach Sweigart Awesome! I like f111 inspiration. And the camo is impressive. That’s something I can never get quite right in LEGO.
Thanks. You're correct in that the F-111 was one of the primary inspirations for this, and also the Su-24 Fencer. Camo is definitely a tedious task. It basically comes down to doing it once, stepping back and looking at it, and then adjusting, and re-adjusting, so that the overall pattern has the right feel to it.

Quoting VAkkron ™ Ok, I think all those parts exist... plus, she's a beauty. Glad to finally see a stunning real-world plane in the pool. It looks good. You are spec's accurate and ready to pull some G's above the thunderdome.
Thanks. I am pretty sure all the parts exist, too. I checked and re-checked Bricklink several times for each of the "questionable" parts, like many of those dark orange and dark tan tiles. I was actually surprised to find out that there are a lot more real parts in the those colors than I had originally assumed. Tally ho!

Somehow my first reply got lost, but thanks. This is actually our beach camo scheme -- the troops like to kick back on the sand between missions.

Thanks. As it turns out, we have many variants of the BLU-209, including seasonal variants. We'll be introducing one full of summer pale ale shortly.
