This is an updated version of the 1963 Chevrolet Impala that I owned from 2000 to 2016. There are pictures of the real car at the end of the page.
About this creation
Working from front to rear, the updated include curving the edges of the hood and bumper using the new 1/4 circle tires.
I added a cowl vent and windshield wipers. I also changed the side view mirrors to a more correct looking style.
I went from 8 studs wide to 6 studs wide on the windshield, roof and rear window. I redesigned the roof to add thickness and curves to it, while I also lowered the roof line down 1 plate thickness. I added door handles while the inside was revised to be 5 studs wide instead of 6 studs wide.
In the rear again I curved the body and bumper.
I had built the first version of this car when I came out of my LEGO dark ages in 2012.
Quoting Elk Guard
Cool car, both the LEGO version and the real thing! Check out my ford galaxie moc for a possible wheel arch solution, but it needs the wheels set in behind.
Thanks for the idea, I wonder if the flat part at the top of you fender idea could be done in a SNOT plate so that the tire could be closer to the outside of the wheel arch by mounting it with jumper plates? I’ll have to mock it up with loose bricks to see if it would work.
