Ground Attack Aircraft (MILPO). This is a digital entry.
About this creation
A family of tactical fighters, standing in service of the Army, Air force and Navy of Catland Corporation.
So the preparation for war was in full swing. Fluffy spies Catland Corporation brought bad news. Urgently needed tactical aviation unit that is able to eliminate the threat of mechanized units, or attack speed landing ships of the enemy. The choice fell on the creation of specialized attack aircraft.
The engineers of the Catland Corporation once again faced a difficult task. An analysis of the recent local wars show that in the case of use against well-armed enemy, attack aircraft suffered heavy losses, as was supposed to fly in the air defense zone. At medium and high altitudes, the threat was represented by SAM, and at low altitudes - by rapid-fire anti-aircraft artillery. The problem is that all known aircraft are not able to dramatically change trajectory at a large angle to the direction of flight. The usual maneuvers, even vigorous, do not allow it. It is not possible to leave the line of sight and leads to large losses at low altitudes from small-caliber artillery, against which inefficient means of electronic warfare.

However, our wonderful scientists and engineers were able to find a solution! The plane was built disk-shaped, having almost the same resistance to air in any direction. A large area of the body provided a good lifting force, which allowed to dispense small wings.

The main thrust was provided by 4 turbojet engines placed in pairs and capable of turning in a horizontal plane. This allows the attack aircraft to suddenly change the trajectory without changing the direction of flight!

The aircraft was able to inflict unexpected strikes from low altitudes, remaining almost invulnerable to fire from the ground. For protection against enemy fighters in addition to excellent maneuverability added the aft turret with four 30-mm automatic cannon capable of in a few moments to create an impenetrable fire zone.

As a strike weapon, two long-range Exoset cruise missiles are used to attack ships or air defense facilities, as well as eight Brimstone missiles to attack armored vehicles or ground fortifications.

The saucer crew consists of two pilots - the commander and operator of weapons. Their functions are duplicated if necessary. During long flights, pilots are allowed to take Pets to the cockpit...))

Bottom view. Left - the chassis is raised. Right-the chassis is released for takeoff or landing.

Since, it was found that Catland is located on the island, the deck version of the attack aircraft was launched in production. Wings made folding, and Brimstone missiles replaced with more powerful guided air bombs.

Taking into account the specifics of naval battles, air-to-air missiles and anti-submarine torpedoes were additionally included in the armament of the deck attack aircraft.

Also, after long tests, our engineers managed to create a VTOL-version of "Flying Cat". It is not widespread, because by placing an additional lift turbofan had to reduce the payload.

But the possibility of vertical take-off made it easy to place the attack aircraft on almost any ships. The picture shows a deck variant VTOL "Flying Cat" armed with 2 anti-submarine torpedoes and 2 air-to-air missiles.

All three variants of the aircraft "Flying Cat".

Good design. Try replacing the large curvy bricks and think up a different way to make those curves. (P.S. Consider building it out of real bricks! Real bricks give a more realistic look and also add shadows to your creation!)
Thank You for comment! Yes, building from real bricks is much nicer ) |

Just completed a much-modified version of this wonderful MOC in real brick -- one that also functions as a smoothly spinning top. May I use one of your photos in the coming MOCpage? I'll be sure give you full credit for the original design with links back to this page.
Yeah, sure, Jeremy, use it. I can send you digital files. |

From the top, that's a good looking flying saucer. I'd like to see more of the bottom. Do the weapons interfere with the landing gear?
No does not interfere with. Quad missile launchers Brimstone hanging in front of the chassis and missiles Exocet - between the chassis. Neither one nor the other does not overlap the opening area of the chassis. |
