Runkbolt; The Infiltrator
Finally after a long overdue Bricklink order, I have constructed the first version of my self moc! I present to you Runkbolt; The Infiltrator. This moc is an entry to the Bionicle/CCBS contest. He is also the first of my personal Toa team, the Toa Elite. There is more info on his backstory in the bio. This is my most favourite of my mocs too. He took a lot of trial and error, but the end product is by my standards a success. Please comment and tell me if you like this creation, and how I can improve it. Also if anybody is interested, and wanted to offer, I would appreciate if someone made a poster for him, that I could display on my homepage.
About this creation
Name: Runkbolt (sometimes referred to as Runk, not to get mixed up with my sigfig)
Title: The Infiltrator
Gender: Male
Species: Toa of Air
Element: Air
Kanohi: Kualsi, mask of quick travel
Colour(s): Primary: Green, Secondary: Silver
Weapons/tools: Saw/shield gauntlets, wind spear/wing pack, twin air blades
Alignment: Good, Brotherhood of Makuta (Formerly), Toa Elite (Currently)
Status: Alive
Moc status: Assembled (and for a while to come)
Bio:
Runkbolt used to be a Le-matoran that caught the attention of Xerox (a Makuta in charge of training and recruiting future members) at a young age. He was offered a position in the Brotherhood of Makuta to be trained to become a toa. He gratefully accepted this position, unaware of the five other matoran also given the opportunity.
Xerox later introduced Runkbolt to his new friends and teammates. They were to be trained as a special toa task force team, called the Toa Elite. Runkbolt was given a toa stone and transformed into the toa he is now. His first weapon that he received from Xerox were his saw and shield gauntlets. All the other toa were given gauntlets specialized for them too, resulting in the team being referred to as the Makuta’s Gauntlets. All the toa on the team were trained for a specific role. He became specialized in infiltrating Dark Hunter compounds and being the first line of attack on the Toa Elite’s missions. Runkbolt wasn't an assasin, but more of a heavy infiltrator.
After, multiple successful missions he did some spying on the Makuta, because he had heard rumours of a plan to overthrow Mata Nui. He found the rumours to be true and informed his team. The Toa Elite deserted after they ransacked the training compound for weapons. Currently Runkbolt and the team make constant raids on the many Makuta compounds.

A front view. I really like the colour scheme and overall look of him. I went for not a huge imposing brute, but I feel the build conveys a well developed structure. Also, Runkbolt isn't too over armoured or overpowered and I feel like he is a believable and realistic character.

Side view, the other side is identical. Your able to see his saw and shield gauntlets retracted. One thing that I wish I could have avoided was the use of an Av-Matoran head.

Here is a back view of Runkbolt with his twin swords stored.

And a view without them. Don't get me started on all those colourful pins and axles. They are necessary for the back plate and head to attach, along with the weapons.

Here is a close up of the torso and head. Yes, this moc uses the Inika torso, but I don't mind how it's used. I didn't rely on the piece for the whole build like the sets did. I also don't understand the hate this piece recieves, yes it's simple and overused, but it can be very helpful in moccing situations. The toro also uses a vahki chest piece and a hordika chestplate to achieve the aesthetic and design. I picked the Kanohi Kualsi as his mask not only because It looks super cool, but because it has an awesome power of teleportation. For the chest armour I used Gahlok Kal shield because it reminds me of some cool mocs, like CallanLoF's self moc, and sets like Toa Iruini. The shoulders are made of a visorak foot and a Nuparu Mahri armour piece. I did my best to minimalize the amount of red axles and blue pins by scavenging through my collection looking for black ones. Turns out I didn't have enough.

Here I included a picture of the back and neck structure to give you guys an idea on how it fits together. I know, it's very "colourful." Also, can you see the cracks on the Av-Matoran head piece. XD. That was from my first ever Bionicle set, Photok. XD. Yes... that was what started my love for Bionicle...

Ooh... Look at that waist articulation. This was something that I wanted to make sure I included. Runkbolt has a full 360 degrees in waist articulation. It is also very secure and tight because of a tire. Yep, he has a hand acting as armour for his waist. What? That's all that worked!

A lower back shot. This shows the tire around the Glatorian neck. It makes it very secure. Also, I forgot to mention that I used the most useful waist piece of all time, the vahki waist!

And the rather simplistic, but appealing lower leg design. I found a way to attach some Inika armour to the legs to act as shinpads. I think they look decent. The 1x3 flat tile is only there to cover some red axles. For the feet I used another one of my favourite parts, the Inika foot!

Time to get into the weapons and gear that this Toa of air wields. First we have his shield gauntlets. The saws are retracted here.

Now the saws are in use. Just take the piece out and put it in the other side when they aren't in use.

Here, Runkbolt is shown practicing his slicing maneuvers for hand to hand combat, or in this case, saw, to stump-where-your-hand-used-to-be combat!

Now Runkbolt wields his twin air blades.

I've done this pose before with a different moc. Here Runkbolt is claiming/stealing the wind spear from the Makuta training compound. After he claims it, the spear adapts itself to the Toa of Air's configuration and doubles as a wing pack.

Testing out it's balance, and getting a feel for the large weapon.

Runkbolt can store the spear on his back.

The handle shortens and allows for a more compact storage.

When in flight, the spear splits down the middle and forms wings. Runkbolt's air blades also become stabilizers. Since Runkbolt doesn't have a mask of flight or levitation to fly, he can use his elemental powers over air and provide propulsion. He can also use his mask of quick travel to teleport to a high altitude and glide from there on.

What I think is a cool pose.

Here is a size comparison with Matoro, my favourite toa of ice. Standing up straight, Runkbolt is as tall as a standard Inika build.

Me: What, where did you go?

Runbkolt: I'm up here!
Me: How'd you get up there?
Runbkolt: My Kualsi. I'm going to test out this wing pack!
Me: No! It doesn't actually-
Crash!
Me: Oh no...

A nice shot of Runkbolt posing with his spear.

And a final shot with Runkbolt waving goodbye.

I had a lot of fun building this guy. I feel like he is a great self moc, that can only improve from where he is now. In the future I might try a custom torso and limbs, but I'm happy the way they are now. I guess I can say that I have officially entered the Bionicle community now. Look out for some future self moc contests too! Thanks for viewing. Please comment, like, and give me feedback on this moc, it's appreciated. Also let me know in the comments if anyone would like to make a poster for my homepage with Runkbolt. And once again, thank you for viewing, see you next time!

Quoting JimiFurno RedXD001 I was planning on using that mask for my Self-MOC. Oh well I prefer the Metru Green and silver Turaga Nuju mask on my new Self-MOC anyway. =P Maybe I'll try figuring out a way to use those masks as shoulder armour or something. =P Anyway really nice first Self-MOC, I like those fancy wings he's got.
Thank you.

Quoting Shining TORPedo Sweet! For a first SelfMOC, that's quite impressive! Mine was a basic HF build with a cape. :P He has a very neat aesthetic, I like the arm design particularly. Not sure what the realistic advantage of 360 degree hip poseability is, but I'm impressed you managed it. And I am in love with the spear, his winged mode is GLORIOUS. :P
Thank you so much! The hip poseability is just able to move 360. It's similar to the way a Bionicle figure's head can move all the way around. It's just there cuz a ball joint gives the poseability, even though a moc might not utilize it.

Quoting Ciblast omega I think the feet are a little off putting, are they supposed to be slightly white?
No, they are a moulded piece. They are green and silver. Light is just reflecting off making it look lighter than it is.

Nice coherent character with an efficient color scheme. He's still a little bulky for someone known as the infiltrator but his abilities make up for that. The staff works surprisingly well and the flight form is great looking. Torso and neck are a little odd, but who am I to talk, Kincaid's design is unorthodox too. Good work!
