"The General Motors Building is a 50-story, 705 ft (215 m) office tower at 767 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, New York City. The building, which is bound by Fifth Avenue and Madison Avenue between 59th Street and 58th Street, is one of the few structures in Manhattan to occupy a full city block. With 1,774,000 net leasable square feet, the tower sits on the site of the former Savoy-Plaza Hotel and affords views of Central Park. It was designed in the international style by Edward Durell Stone & Associates with Emery Roth & Sons and completed in 1968."
About this creation
I am back with another Skyscraper from Midtown-Manhattan, New York. This time I have built the General Motors Building, one I intended to build to complete my layout of the Midtown district of Manhattan. I have been making a few more MOCs of surrounding buildings that I will eventually upload with Part 3 of my Midtown-Manhattan Layout.
Anyway, onto the current building!
This MOC features 1246 pieces and was made in Lego Digital Designer.
The GM Building is a 50-story skyscraper that has a roof height of 705 feet (215m). Construction started in 1964 and the building was finally complete 4 years later in 1968.
To get the shape of this building I used 1x2 plates with a stud in the middle to make the slightly wider middle section. I was originally going to build this white which is an accurate colour, however from far away the building looks closer to medium-grey so I settled for light-grey as it is halfway between the two colours.
At the plaza of the building is the Apple Store "glass cube". I was going to use a 1x2 brick with a hole in the middle and attatch a white stud to represent the Apple logo, but instead I settled with just a 2x2 trans-dark blue brick with a 2x2 tile ontop.
Here is the General Motors Building with the Solow Building on the Left. These buildings are very similar in height so I would say the scale is appropriate between them. Overall I am very happy with the outcome of this MOC.
