Crown Building, New York
"The Crown Building (formerly known as the Heckscher Building) is a mixed use property located at 57th Street and Fifth Avenue in New York City, one of the most expensive retail and office space locations in the United States. The property is an iconic fixture in Midtown Manhattan designed by Warren and Wetmore, architects of the Helmsley Building and Grand Central Terminal. The Crown Building was originally known as the Heckscher Building, designed by architects Warren and Wetmore and completed in 1921. The building stands 26 stories (416 feet) high. The name was changed to the Crown Building in 1983, attributing its crown-like look when illuminated at night."
About this creation
After 7 Months of taking a break from making any architectual MOCS for MOC pages I decided to kick-start the year off with another New York Building, this time instead of replicating a skyscraper I decided to go for something a little smaller - The Crown Building.
-Acctually I just wanted to complete the area around the Trump and IBM tower so I could make a more complete landscape of Midtown Manhattan, but onto that later.

This MOC features 326 pieces and was made in Lego Digital Designer.

To me the Crown Building is a typical 1920's New York building with a very square base and a highly-decorated Crown, (No pun intended :p) Getting the shape of this building however was acctually quite challenging at first. For the windows I thought the best technique to use would be the 1x2 grill peices.

The Crown could have been better in my opinion, but I settled for this design. I wanted to get those 1x1 clip peices to decorate it so I am glad I was able to get that in there along with the basic shape off the buildings most recognisable aspect.

The other two buildings I didn't pay too much attention to, especially since I only had a 4-stud width to build them on anyway. I still feel that they are recognisable of what they are supposed to be.

Round the back looks very uncomplete because I havn't finished the rest of the block. My main intention was to build the Crown Building, the smaller buildings can sometimes be a bit tedious to make sometimes, so for now I settle with '720 5th Avenue and 724 5th Avenue'.
Also you can see the 'flame yellowish-orange' at the base of the Crown Building to give the windows a bit more detail.

Here are two pictures showing the Crown Building with the Trump Tower and IBM Building:

Quoting Nico Bak318 A very nice looking MOC! I also like the style of the builings from the 1910's. Best are the art deco style buildings. Making a fantasy building it mixes well with steampunk themes. Ever built a building in a larger scale like minifig size? You can put in more details, you can check my Empire state building or a fantasy building. Thanks for showing this MOC.
Thankyou, and yeah the art-deco buildings in New York are some of my favourites such as the Chrysler Building and 40 Wall Street. They really give the skyline character. I would like to make larger scale buildings at minifig scale, maybe one day and I will be sure to check out your lego creations. Thanks again for commenting! :)
