About this creation
As my daughter is well aware that I'm an AFOL, this Christmas she has decided to offer me, just for fun, a small set from Wilko Blox (one of those brands that make LEGO compatible sets, not illegal clones I presume).

I was not really impressed by the set... until I took a closer look at that van's mudguards:

This is indeed a part that, for me, is way better than LEGO's 18974, the one they normally use in Speed Champions models:

As can be seen, Wilko's mudguard is much less bulky than LEGO's, which means more versatility in the MOC design process - and moreover, its top studs are located one plate lower, thus enabling a lower profile in sports car models.

That being said, I decided to have a go on a Speed Champions-style MOC using those 'alien' mudguards. This is the result!

P.S. - It must be noted that all the other parts used here are genuine LEGO... :D

(Gienah (Gamma Corvi) is a star in the Corvus constellation).

Welcome to the Darkside. I haven’t used any non-Lego elements yet, but I did resort to very closely matching model paint to get parts of my Porsche cars to be orange and yellow. The overall design of the car is very stylish.

Fit, form, function works for me... other system bricks ...finance, convenience and or efficiency comes to mind... Bottom line: lower skids gave yur whip a lo pro = priceless

The curve of this piece is a little different of LEGO's too. My nephew got a KREO's Optimus Blaster something (i'm not good with names), and the piece is soft as this, but the curve is more even, though. Great MOC! Love the car aerodynamic. And as a poor blockbuilder in a third world country i cannot be as selective as original pieces either. Just enjoy the building, i guess.

Thank you all for your comments! The car might have been even lower if it wasn't for the minifigure, which, despite sitting directly on the car's floor, still needs a considerable height to accomodate its hair/helmet.

Great job on the car! The clone mudguards look so much more versatile than the Lego ones, image how much more realistic the sc cars would look with the lower profile being available....

Very nicely done! This clone piece seems to be really useful and it does not look bad either. I usually do not like such pieces as the type of plastic always seems to be inferior in comparison to normal LEGO. The design of the car reminds me of the older Alfa Romeo´s, especially with the red colour. I like it very much!
