Nieuport 11, nicknamed the Bébé
Nieuport 11, classic WWI biplane in Lt. Armand de Turenne`s famous Tricolour scheme.
About this creation
I found this French opponent to the Fokker EIII to be very appealing in it`s beautiful tricolour livery. The tricky part was to make the flimsy wings bend in all the right directions. First the lower wings has a little dihedral angle. Second, both lower and top wing is slightly sweept back a few degrees.

Like my other aircraft models, this one is also build to scale 1:40, what I call Minifig scale, and fits a Minifig pilot nicely.

This model contains 210 pieces and like many of my other models, a few of them are painted.

About the Nieuport 11 Bébé:

From Britmoddeler.com

The Nieuport 11 first appeared over the western front in early 1916, and made a massive contribution to ending the 'Fokker scourge'. It outclassed the Fokker Eindekkers in almost every respect, except perhaps that it did not posses a synchronised gun firing through the propeller. Its single Lewis gun was mounted on the top wing, and fired over the propellers arc of rotation.

Its main innovation was the use of a sesqiplane layout, with a larger top wing and small narrow chord lower wing, connected by 'V' interplane struts. This gave both excellent manoeuvrability and field of view. The arrangement could be fragile in a dive however, and care was needed to avoid flutter and tearing the wings off.

Known as the Bébé due to its diminutive size, the aircraft served in the front line for over a year, and was used by the air forces of France, Britain, Italy, Russia, and Belgium, with a total of over 7,000 produced.

Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Quoting Per Bonde What a great addition to your fleet. Good things do come in small packages. I can see you have spent a lot of time on the details. Impressive work as always.
Thank you very much Per. I do agree, you don`t have to use thousands of pieces to make a good MOC, and I`m glad you like it!

Quoting john lamarck Very good plane. It could be even better with a brickarms mg on the upper wing.
Thank you John! Details can always be improved by the use of custom items, but I´m quite happy with the way my brickbuilt MG turned out.

Quoting Florent Legopassion Magnifique travail ! Votre Nieuport 11 "bébé" est réaliste et votre description de l'historique de l'avion est bien documentée. Good job !
Thank you Florent! Like you, I also use Google translate, and I think I understand your comment. I `m glad you like the "Bébé". I really enjoyed building this awesome French plane and it was built to complete my initial collection of WWI aircrafts.

Quoting Clayton Marchetti Outstanding work my friend! I love that ever so slightly tappering of the top wing. Very nicely done. I also love how the fuselage tappers off toward the tail. And as always love your landing gear. It’s spot on!
Thank you very much Clayton! It`s a pleasure when someone notices, and appreciates the details of a small model like this.

Quoting Gabor Pauler Very innovative brick usage at engine ring.
Thank you very much Gabor, glad you like the engine! The engine is one of those things very hard make detailed in this scale, but adding the visible cylinders, even though they are a bit oversized, is worth the effort.

Quoting Jeremy McCreary As usual Henrik, a handsome plane beautifully rendered! Standing up to shoot the gun in the midst of a dogfight must have been interesting for the pilot.
Thank you very much Jeremy. The gun was placed on top of the mainwing too shoot above the propeller radius, there was no synchronization mechanism installed. But I don`t think the pilot actually stood up, there must have been some kind of remote trigger mechanism installed.
