BTL-A4 Y-wing
Welcome to what I think is one of my best creations so far. The Y-wing from Star Wars. I wanted to build this so that I had a ship to go with my TIE Interceptor. I've never really liked Y-wings and have always preferred the X-wing. However I've tried building one of those before and it proved difficult so I decided on a Y-wing. My main inspirations for this ship were Inthert, Brickwright and Maciej Szymañski who have all built incredible Y-wings in the past. Mine has sort of ended up as a combination of their ideas with some of my own thrown in. Anyway, I'm really happy with it and I hope you like it too. Enjoy!
About this creation
Birds-eye view of the ship.

A shot of the rebel mechanic. I really like this picture.

The ship itself.

Front view of the ship.

The top of the ship.

The astromech droid.

A shot of the rebels.

Some pictures of the pilots. They'd better hurry up if they want to get to their ships on time!

The base without the ship. I built this really quickly after the ship but I think it adds quite a lot to the build.

Now it's time for some pictures of the Y-wing by itself.

The left side.

The right side.

The front.

The back.

One of the engines.

The astromech droid.

Greebles.

More greebles.

Birds-eye view of the greebles.

Even more greebles!

A shot of the cockpit.

The front guns. I tried to make these as accurate as possible with the three distinct tiers.

The cannon.

A better view of one of the domes. One of my biggest problems building this ship was to how to replicate the big domes without any dome pieces. I eventually came up with this. These are actually based on the domes used in the Taj Mahal set.

A picture of one of the sides. This may be my favourite side as I am really pleased with the greebles.

Some pictures of the engines. I'm really pleased with how these came out.

Some pictures of the back of the ship.

Some shots of the astromech droid and the back of the cockpit.

Some better views of the landing gear.

A picture of the cockpit. I am really pleased with this.

Another shot of the cockpit. Here you can see some of the controls better.

A picture of the bottom of the cockpit. Those stickers aren't supposed to be there but I didn't want to take them off of my pieces. I think that they look OK though.

The bottom of the whole ship.

I am really pleased with the dark grey pipe here.

All of the landing gear is retractable. Here is a shot of the front leg extended.

The front leg retracted.

One of the back legs extended.

The back leg retracted.

And finally some WIP pics.

Thank you very much for looking. I worked really hard on this one so please leave some comments about what you thought.

Bye and Merry Christmas!

Cameron =)

Quoting Minh-Kha N. The sheer amount of excellent detail on this, coupled with its ability to still look clean (which I don't get - it's a Y-WING, for the love of everything), which makes it all the more impressive. Incredible work!
Thanks. =)

Quoting Joe H . Great work man! love how this looks, reminds me of that fantastic UCS one lego did so great work! only improvement i'd recommend is just consider the weight of certain sections. I don't know if its the images or the model itself but I noticed a few parts bending so it might be worth a few extra pieces being added so you don't damage anything. overall solid work man! keep it up!
Thank you Joe. You're right, some of the pieces, especially the bits supporting the engines do bend slightly. However they are still attached firmly from multiple angles and won't fall off. Also, there are a lot of "illegal" techniques used in this MOC which probably don't help with this. As to the weight of the engines, there's nothing else I could really do if I wanted to have everything attached.

Quoting Clayton Marchetti Wow! Really wow! This is the best Y-wing I’ve ever seen. I love it. The canopy is brilliant. I like how you built the bottom plus the landing gear. Awesome detailing with the piping. Also love the engine ring at the end of the struts. The base plate definitely adds to scene. Magnificent job! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Cameron
Thank you very much Clayton. I'm honoured that you think this is the best Y-wing. Merry Christmas to you too. =)
