The Saturn V rocket put out by Lego is in my opinion the best model they have ever produced. The way it's put together is a masterpiece. My brother put together the model and decided to make a launch tower and platform to go with it. He did some incredible work planning out how it should go together and did a fantastic job building it which inspired me to try it myself.
My version took me about 3 months to complete. I used my brothers Lego model, plastic and paper models as well as dozens photos of the actual thing. A fun project to work on although a bit pricey. I tried to make it as accurate as I could with the correct number of decks and all the piping. The stairway took a lot of effort to make right and after all the work, you can hardly see them. I wish I could have figured out a way to make the crane on top more delicate but I don't think that's possible in Lego. Had to use a small ladder to complete the upper sections. The base is extremely strong and the tower is surprisingly sturdy but does sway an inch or so if pushed. I did have to cut the pipes to the correct size and do some trimming of the fencing to make them fit and look correct. I have already started on the NASA crawler that transports this monster. Another fun build.
