MOCer Cup Round 3 - Frankenstein
MOCer Cup Round 3 - Category: Heeeere's Johnny! Build a scene from a horror movie. Classics are encouraged!
About this creation
My entry to round 3 of The MOCer Cup in The MOCer Games - Summer 2017 .
My opponent MC Legoboy Good luck to him!

I liked to build a MOC of "my" first horror- movie, seen on TV many years ago. I remember that I could'nt sleep as well as usual after this... ;) Today the movie seems to be kind of harmless lookin' at the actual blockbusters and actual FX... Fact: It's an iconic movie and in 1931 it was a big hit and the beginning of the career of the great british actor Boris Karloff. Frankenstein was the mad scientist, but today most people telling this name mean the monster because of the fantastic acting of Karloff... The movie was made in a big film- set, often used matte- painting for the background, and this is mostly very DARK. So I tried to catch the scene when the uninvited guests burst in on the experiment.

Really nice work! I love all of the furniture and machinery and of course that curved wall. I also like how you used dark bley and grey for the floor.

Quoting Clayton Marchetti Wow! This is awesome! I love all the machinery, especially the Tesla thingy. Outstanding!
Thanks a lot, my friend! I'm not a big photo- shopper ( I use Photo Commander 14 and paint net...) and if this hasn't been a contest, I would have tried to "make" some flashes and electrical discharges into the pics... ;)

Quoting Builder Allan Awesome! Great work on the details like the apparatus and that curved wall :-)
Thanks much, Allan! For me it was a fun to make this MOC after I was sure that it should be Frankenstein from 1931... ;)

Quoting C Stucky Pulling off real horror with plastic bricks is really tough. Neither you, or your opponent effectively scared me with your builds. However, you both came pretty close. When things stand about the same as far as category goes, the decision comes down to detail and that's where your build shines. I love seeing builds of minifig-size tools and scientific apparatae (is that the plural of apparatus?). The round wall and so many other cool details won over my vote. Great job from both of you. And good luck as you (Oliver) move on to the next round.
Glad you've felt well with my creation, Stucky! The task was to build a scene from a horror movie, not to cause scare... ;) The plural is apparatuses, b.t.w.! Thank you very much!

Quoting Ben Cossy Fantastic! The curved wall and all the well built detail, truly awesome.
Thanks very much, Ben! It's one of my favorite classical movies, so it was easier for me to get it like this... ;)

Quoting Henrik Jensen Absolutely brilliant! The scenery is really spot on, I also remember seeing this movie when I was very young, giving me the creeps. However, the later version with Gene Wilder and Marty Feldman is really funny and entertaining!
Haha, we both are not so many years apart, Henrik! Glad you like my nostalgic horror- scenery! Thanks a lot! The Wilder version celebrates the original one and M.Feldmann made the best of his Morbus Basedow going to be a comedian... ;)

Puns are OK... ;) Thanks a lot, James! Glad my main pic, in essence of the MOC, finds your and so many other's appreciation!

Quoting matt rowntRee Wow! This is outstandingly brilliant and so lovingly detailed. God, I can hear all the buzzing of the electricity and the good ol' doctor screaming, "It's alive!" Awesome!
Hahaha, you've seen this movie several times, Matt! That's unmistakable... ;) Thanks, man! I hoped that it'll cause some suspense and horror and now I nearly believe it works... :)

Quoting Jeremy McCreary OMG, the mind of Oliver Becker is in full eruption! Run for the hills! This MOC just keeps going and going, each scene better than the last. Love everything here, my friend -- especially the table and the lighting. I can hear the znapping of the coils now.
OK: YOU can run to the hills there in Colorado (but beware of the carrots...), here in Germany at the coast we have only dikes to climb up... ;) LOL Hey my friend, thank you for this very kind comment. Now I see that my efford was ok! And it was a fun to build all this after I'd chosen this iconic movie. The alternate would have been the "Army of Darkness" from 1992 because of "MontyPythons" humor and some really funny/grotesc scenes... But old is gold.. ;)

Quoting Justin Li Congrats to both of you for making it so far! Both of you have a very unique approach to MOCing that's been awesome to watch these last couple of rounds. Oliver: wow! You captured the drama and raw horror of this moment beautifully with not just the build, but the unique lighting too. I love the all the different apparatus in the room. MCLegoboy: you have a point with the whole age range thing. I definitely did not think of that when writing the categories. Then again, City ultimately picked the categories for this round, and you and your opponent are safely within the appropriate age range, although I don't know if I can say the same for the other judges. I like the accuracy of your build to the intensely disturbing and terrifying scene it represents, although it did take me a second to realize it was blood. The room is very well recreated, and the red stuff itself is well rendered to look like the real thing. In the end, though, even given the content of the elevators in MC's build, I have to go with Oliver's entry, since the horror of his scene was more tangible in his build, especially with his first shot. Congrats to both of you once again, and good luck with the other judges!
Glad you've got a well-dosed shiver with my entry, Justin! Thanks!

As I told in my comment on your MOC: THIS movie is a part of my youth and still one of my most- liked horror movies and I got a run while building, with so many ideas for it... ;) Thanks much, MCLegoboy!
