Sukhoi SU-27 Flanker-B
The single best Soviet fighter of the Cold War. That's the title bestowed upon the SU-27 Flanker. Designed with the intention to outperform and directly oppose the F-15 Eagle of the U.S, the Flanker is a formidable plane, looking dangerous, hungry, and deadly. It can carry up to eight air-to-air missiles at a time, and with a thrust-to-weight ratio over one, it can reach Mach 2.35. HOWEVER, the LEGO version doesn't do that :D It took about 2 days of designing, building, and refining, and then another two days of smashing it for a redesign. This is the end result. It's the first model that I've ever made of a real-life vehicle (is a plane a vehicle?), and as such, I hope you like it!
About this creation
The front.

The back.

The back.

The back.
Plus some thrust vectoring nozzles (yay!)
Sorry about the annoying glare of the sun on the left nozzle; couldn't take another picture, since by the time I realized the glare was there, the outdoor photography conditions were gone.

The cockpit opens; albeit the wrong direction, but hey, I'm working with what I got. LEGO didn't design the cockpit piece with the hinge on the other side of the piece, did they?

And I built some landing gear, too.

A beautiful parting shot at sunrise.

UPDATE 7/28/2017 4:08 PM

Added some missiles.

UPDATE 7/29/2017 9:00 AM

I'm the first person in my knowledge to have tried this...however, I'm very happy with the results.

"Missile lock established; I'm firing now."

Quoting Zac Rosamond Wow, brilliant! The smoke trail the missile has left behind is pretty inventive, good job.

Quoting James Y. Very sleek indeed. Nice. As to answer your question, there are a number of canopy tops that LEGO has designed that are rear hinged, the most notable that would work would be the one of the Ninjago series of planes... notably Jay's Storm Fighter or Kai Fighter. Unfortunately it's a bit boxier than the one you are using and might not be a suitable replacement. Most of the rest of are going to be either much more bowed (oval shaped) or very boxy.
Yeah...I did note those cockpits, but I didn't like the way they looked when I planned the plane in LDD, so I ditched them...plus, I don't have the pieces :P Thanks for the kind words and advice!
