I'm so excited to have this done. This was one of my most favorite non-star wars lego sets. Been working on it for months.
This picture below is it next to an approximation of the original set I found online. Don't recall who made the parts that weren't in LDD. Don't know why those parts aren't in LDD. One of those parts is the sensor dish thing on top of the probe. I made my own that is bent like it's suppose to be, but larger. I also made the probe eyes, at least I think that's what they are, out of inquisitor lightsaber hilts. I also did this for another model I made that you might remember... if I ever posted it which I might have forgotten like the Recon Mech that I still haven't posted.
I wanted to make the engines bigger to fit with the new wing scale. As I believe I mentioned earlier the whole purpose of this remake project is to do for some of the older sets what LEGO has been doing for Star Wars sets. They have remade them to be more detailed and in many cases bigger because the original 90's and early 2000's sets were smaller than to scale and/or parts weren't the right size to the whole. So taking that logic that older LEGO sets are scaled small I've been enlarging and giving more detail to Life on Mars sets and UFO sets to make a massive Martian vs UFO battle.
Anyway, back to this particular model, this engine area is not just enlarged but I added spherical part to the end to make it more alien.
Cockpit view I accidentally found while spinning.
I lengthened the mid section not just for size sake, but to add connection points so I could make it modular.
Not sure why but I'm making their control surfaces and interior lights purple.
And this is part of why I made it modular. Here is the short-range version of the fighter. Stubby I call him. The mid section is taken out and pieces changed for the probe on top so that it won't overshoot the cockpit.
This shot of the UFO lining up a shot of the TIE howler was inspired by the cockppit view I got before.
