Quoting Sven ;o) You should take a closer look at the real knockoff brand called "Lepin" You will be surprised how many Lego sets they actually copied. And they are really fast with doing this. You can get copys of original Lego sets right after they are on the market. Sometimes before the original set is on the market. And the quality of their bricks is increasing.
I actually saw the LEPIN brand in a place where I live called "Dragon Mall." They sell thousands of Chinese products from lightbulbs to fidget spinners. It is almost exactly like the real thing, except the themes' names are misspelled. Technician, Ninjag, and Star Plan to name a few. I believe they got sued once or twice.

Quoting Builder Allan Oh that's.. Hmm.. Ah well, at least SOME of the bricks look like they could have been LEGO.. But that is a paradox. Do you thank them for the gift or tell them off for not buying the real thing? :-/
Yeah, this brand in particular scored a 68% overall on Brickset's "Communist Lego"...

Quoting LegoPredator ! Aww... I donīt like clone bricks. The quality of bricks is usually bad and colors arenīt as nice as in original lego sets. What do you plan to do with this plane? Are you going to keep it?
I may keep the pieces and do some "experiments" on them.

Quoting Angelo Filipelli The set was a construction site, and for some reason mine included a grenade and a sniper rifle.
Oh, the irony...

Yikes! It's too bad that some people think all building sets are the same; I think Allan was right to suggest gently requesting a smaller set of real Lego next time. Too many kids are disappointed by Lego without realising they had an inferior knockoff.

I purchased a Best-Lock space set. It was 200plus pieces for 8 USD. It was worth it. Some of the pieces are the kind we only wish Lego would make. For example, a flat piece with studs on both sides. The set wasn't exactly like the picture on the box, but that is common with lots of big brands, not just the off brands.

Makes me sick. One Christmas when I was about 5 my granddad got me a Best-Lock set. It was missing pieces, the pieces were deformed and cracked and the figures looked like zombies. Also, the set was a construction site, and for some reason mine included a grenade and a sniper rifle. Actually, I don't use anything else than original LEGO parts, but occasionally I'll use a transparent piece from another brand.

@allan: yeah, lol. Aren't Christians like me so soft? :P jk

@ Flex/Your Brother: Yeah maybe "tell them off" was not the right words to use. In this situation though, i think i would still try to find a nice way to tell the people who brought me the gift that i would prefer a smaller set of proper LEGO to a larger copy-set :-)
