MELO R3: Roanoke Handybuck vs. Classical Bricks
Bracket: Orthanc. Category: Ithilien, Build: Ithilien Rangers vs. Oliphaunts. By Roanoke Handybuck! :D
About this creation
Hello! This is my entry for Round 3 of the Middle Earth Lego Olympics! My category was Ithilien, so I decided to build the fight between the oliphaunts and the rangers of Ithilien!

Linky to MELO... :D

Also, link to my talented opponent Classical, and I will post a link to his build in the morning, but I gotta go to bed, and can't wait for him... :D So, good luck bro!

So, onto the build:

Again, no WIP pictures this time, as I just wanted to chug through this one without any advice... :D

This build is roughly 70 x 60 at max with an irregular baseplate, the oliphaunts took around 5 days to build and the landscape took the other 3... (The first 2 days I was still scrambling for what to build...) So yeah, I really went out of my comfort zone for this one, I am not a pro at BBFs, but I really do like these, the heads are actually at a couple different angles off of each other, and the "nets" in the movie are out of lego capes... I hope the judges see that I went out of my comfort zone for this one... :D Anyways, I hope you enjoyed! This was a fun one!

Good luck Classical! May the best Ithilien Ranger win! :D

C&C Appreciated!

To God be the glory!

Hi there, Very nice landscaping! The elephaunts need a bit of work to my taste. They are not on the same build-level as the landscaping. Greetz, Elio

Great build! The landscaping is very solid, especially the rocks transition from the grass. I think the oliphaunts were well done as well!

Excellent entry! I love the perspective you used for this MOC, the rockwork and the trees also look very nice! However, I feel the oliphaunts ruined the build a bit. Some parts of them look really good, but others look very simple or could have been improved. Your opponent on the other side added a more balanced build, so in the end he got my vote. Thanks for participating and all your help during the contest, I really appreciate it! Hope you'll be back next year! Keep MOCin'!

Nice work! Some more zoomed out shots including the oliphaunts would have been nice as its hard to appreciate them as is. Good luck!

Oh, this is a tough call. I am writing my review, and I hope that at the end I'll have a decision. The landscape and rockwork are phenomenal. The ground has a really organic flow to it. The trees are decent. They have nice leaves, but most of the trunks are too static. I also think more foliage on the ground would have been really good. The Oliphaunts are both very good and also probably the weaker part of the build. There are sections of them that feel just right, and others that detract. I understand that building like that is a new thing for you and you did extremely well, particularly for a first attempt. I would suggest trying more in the future. While you have some excellent parts of your build, others seem inconsistent. Because of this my vote goes to your opponent.
