Intro for William Nantucket, age 25 (Galactic Imperium).
About this creation
Will Nantucket lay either passed out or asleep in his hover car on the driveway of his rather nice home in Beverly Hills.
He was awoken by the sounds of his exasperated agent, Charles Sider, walking towards him.
"Getting drunk in your car an hour before your book signing?" Charles spoke. "You've reached a new low."
"Mm, I'll probably reach another one in a week," William said rubbing his eyes. "Do I have to do that stupid thing?"
"You need to keep up appearances. Remind society that you're not just some crazy drunken a**hole."
"But I am."
Charles sighed. "Just sign some damn books."
"Whatever you say agent!" William replied with some fake enthusiasm.
He quickly backed out of the driveway and sped off. Charles sighed once more likely thinking about how irritating his client was.
William arrived at the bookstore where several fans of his only novel were eagerly waiting to meet him.
"Suicide of the Angels is not just a war story," William spoke about his book. "It shows how the main character, Taylor, is faced with some hard choices and how he is transformed after... Making those choices... That he has to live with. His transformation is tragic but ultimately is for the greater good. I'll, uh, take questions now."
Several people excitedly raised their hands.
"Yeah, you," said Will to the first person.
"In chapter nine when Taylor destroys the bunker, is that based on when you destroyed that bunker in the war?"
"Yes, like I said the story borrows a lot from my own experiences in the Collective War," Will answered.
"Are you working on any other books?" another person asked.
"I am definitely working on, working on other stories. Thanks for your question."
Eventually it was time for the book signing. A young woman with a big grin walked up to Will's table.
"Mister Nantucket, it's so nice to meet you. I'm a huge fan," she said with much emphasis on huge.
"Well thank you, I never would've guessed," he said taking her book, quickly scribbling his signature in it, and giving it back.
"Is it true that you're single?" she asked causing all the other girls in line to pay attention to his response.
"Yes it is. Next please."
"And what's your name?" Will asked without looking up from the book he was given.
Will's face fell after hearing the name. He looked up at the Imperial Intelligence agent.
Will quickly ended the event and went to a bar with Dane.
"It's good to see you, William," Dane said softly. "How have you been?"
"Just grand," he replied tersely.
"I see you're a writer now."
"Have you read the book?"
"I've read reviews. They say it's kinda bad."
"Kinda bad? I had a bookstore full of fans today, Dane."
"Are you serious about it? Writing?"
"I can't find a real job. But that one book did make me a ton of money, I bet I can do it again."
"Yeah, no one likes to hire veterans. Always been that way."
"I'm a damn war hero! I was the poster boy for the GI. They could've given me a job after the war ended."
"The GI is still hesitant about working with you after what you did. But I might have something for you."
"At the IIA?" Will asked suddenly enthused.
"No, no, it's more of an off the books job. But you'll get paid for it."
"Let's talk outside."
Dane led Will into an alley next to the bar.
"You gotta kill someone," Dane said bluntly.
"Who?" asked Will.
"An arms dealer, he's causing some trouble for the Imperium."
"Why don't you guys do it? Why come to me?"
"The IIA doesn't want to waste resources for this but it is important. I thought you might be up for making a little extra cash. This way, helping us, is better than writing some lame books if you ask me. So what do you say? You in?"
"Yeah, alright," Will said with slight hesitation.
"Good. Now here, take this," Dane said handing Will a gun.
"What's this little thing?"
"You think you can handle it?" Dane said sarcastically. "The arms dealer is meeting with his supplier tonight at the docks. I'll send you the details."
The arms dealer did in fact meet with his supplier as Dane said.
Will watched the exchange from a distance and waited for the arms dealer to be alone.
Seeing his opportunity, Will revealed himself and shot the arms dealer dead.
As he pulled the trigger he had a flashback to his days in the war.
Will stood over his victim, his heart racing.
Later, he met with Dane again.
"Is it done?" Dane asked.
"Good. The money will be transferred to your account soon. There might be some more stuff like this if you're still up to it. I'll be in touch."
"So what am I now, a bounty hunter?"
"You're doing real good here. It'll also help you get back in the GI's good graces. Think about it."
William returned to his home to find his literary agent waiting for him outside.
"So I heard the signing went well," Charles said. "Are you gonna write some more stuff now?"
"I think I'm gonna take a break from writing for a while."
"A break?! You've been taking a break this whole time!"
"Just worry about yourself, alright?"
"I am worrying about myself! I'm working on commission here! I don't get paid if you don't write!"
"Oh. Well then maybe I should just fire you."
"You're the worst client I've ever had!" Charles yelled before storming off.
Thought I'd go ahead and post instead of just asking questions lol. So maybe not super interesting but since I'm still catching up and finding out about the lore, I didn't want to start something major right of the bat. Hopefully I didn't create any inconsistencies with even this somewhat generic plot. I have some ideas on where to take this but haven't really worked out all the details quite yet but stay tuned...
-I think the show Californication will influence me a lot. Already the agent, the writing plot, and even Will's hovercar is based on stuff from it...
-The hovercar is based on a Porsche. Hey maybe it even is a Porsche just in the future :p
-I realized Will and Dane look like Anakin and Obi-Wan haha
-I only showed humans on Earth because I'm not sure if alien species have come there (yet)... Is that written somewhere?
An absolutely fantastic intro, nice work mate. As others have said the inclusion of Hover cars is a nice touch, and I quite like the idea of the IIA. It'll be interesting to see where this story leads! Welcome to the Insurgency!
Wow! Great intro! Fantastic builds throughout (as Jack said; it's good to actually see hovercars for once!) and good writing too! Yes, there are aliens on Earth now, and no, you've not made any inconsistencies. I look forward to seeing where this goes! Welcome to The Insurgency! You are now on the leaderboard!
Great job! I do think the smuggler could've put up a fight though ;)
One inconsistency: William's torso shows a yellow chest, but he's flesh colored...you may want to change that in future builds. Glad to have you in the Insurgency!
Great Intro! I love the sets for this one and the especially the hover cars. We honestly don't see hover cars that much even though they are supposed to be a very common mode of transportation. :P Anyways. Welcome to the Insurgency! I can't wait to see where this goes!
