And here is my MELO 2017 entry! For this build I chose to build the entrance to the evil realm of Angband. This was the stronghold of the first dark lord, Morgoth, who was Sauron's master.
I chose the poem, Beren and Lúthien. I'm not going to write out the whole poem, just the part that goes along with this MOC.
"Long was the way that fate them bore,
O'er stony mountains cold and grey,
Through halls of ireon and darkling door,
And woods of nightshade morrowless.
The Sundering Seas between them lay,
And yet at last they met once more,
And long ago they passed away
In the forest singing sorrow less."
This build represents the quest for the Silmaril in which Beren, Lúthien, and Huan (wolfhound of the Valar) journey to Angband itself to retrieve a Silamril from the dark lord Morgoth. They eventually succeed in cutting one from his crown.
Nice one Caleb! Love what you've done in making the sharpness of the gate contrast with and grow out of the adjacent rockwork. All of those spires and pointed elements only serve to enhance the evilness of the scene. Fondly do I remember the days of exploring the whole of Middle Earth by way of the Silmarillion and similar historical books. Now, let's see if all this big talk about coming movies amounts to anything... Well done and God bless, ~Promar~
You're right, the MP uploader is tr@sh...I actually skipped your MP post and just looked at it on Flickr. Excellent work!! Two things really stuck out to me; all the detail in the gate, and the two statues...very intimidating! Good work Caleb!
