Kirottu the Kahkan Bat
WHOOP WHOOP! What is up my fellow peanuts, I have come to terrorise your eyes with yet another monstrosity! Hold on to your bottoms, this is gonna be a ride and a half!
About this creation
Two contest entries in two weeks! This one’s an entry to Okoto Station’s “Roaring Rowdy Rumbling Rahi” contest!

Also, this character fits in to the canon of The Island RPG. What? Another MOC for both a contest and an RPG? -and this time one that's already ended!? Yeah, that's right; What you gonna do about it?

Kirottu:
Kirottu is the name given to a beast that inhabited the island of Botana. Though it came much later in the island’s history and was only fleetingly present, the Kahkan Bat has become something of legend with its uncanny speed, bone shattering strength and hypersonic screech that could unearth roots; much fear and superstition has surrounded this creature, and many historians have attempted in vain to ascertain its true nature.

There are many different narratives regarding Kirottu’s origin: some reckon it to be one of a particularly rare species of Rahi, others believe it to have once been an Agori, transmuted into dire wretch; some even suppose it to be a servant of the god Thanatos, come to decimate the population of Botana. In spite of any of these theories, the birth of the Kahkan Bat might forever remain a mystery. It was first spotted in the dead of night on the shores of the Terengua village, though by the next sighting it had travelled all the way down into the Nightmare Woods, bordering dangerously close to the Kahkan Village.

It only a matter of time until Kirottu began to attack the village, gobbling up cattle, slashing up buildings and goring the odd Agori who got in the way. The Bat harangued the Kahkan Agori for two weeks in total before the village leader, the great warrior Krickarr, set out to stop it once and for all. He went alone, scrutinising every trace until he found the beast lurking in the Nightmare Woods. Krikarr attacked without hesitation, while Kirottu was quick to defend itself. The fight raged throughout the night, ending only when Krickarr crippled the Bat and sealed it beneath the earth.

To this day Agori can still visit site of the battle, taking in the uprooted trees, scorched soil and, most concerning of all, a gaping mound of earth that was clearly dug up from within.

The front! Yeah, so when I called it a 'bat', I was using the term quite loosely, as you can see.

Profile- the view where everything starts to take form.

Stood upright. Diegetically, Kirottu can't really do this- it can rear up on its hind legs, but it can't stand up in the way we know it; I'm just doing this to show off the underbelly.

Stood in an aggressive stance, showing off its... well, they're not really wings, are they? ...the fleshy tethers that might have originally been wings, at least.

Height comparison with Ikir.

Chillin' with the posse.

Sadly I disassembled all of my Island RPG characters, so I can't do any pertinent comparisons here... the best I can do is pit it against a Protector, who is roughly about the same height; you can start to see how Kirottu would have posed a threat to the Agori

Against a Toa however, the Kahkan Bat just isn't as imposing... poor thing.

That's not a wing. Now that's a wing!

That's all folks!

Given the deadline to this contest, I had to shift Contenders back a week. Expect it next week, though...!

Quoting joshua jacobson (smiles) wow! seems like your mocs are getting more impressive even the color scheme is cool, i saw your new chapter today, :( but it was kinda sad, but still you got to keep tyranca and sobek alive?
Thanks Joshua! I'm glad you like the MOC- and I hope you enjoyed the new Contenders! Obviously no spoilers- but you did see Tyranca brought back to life by Shadonax, so no need to worry about that. As for keeping them alive later on, well... we'll have to see...!

Quoting Toa Gaim Awesome moc! Wait it's bat? I thought it was a dragon of some sort, but it's still cool! I just created a version of my Gotrok moc Arkus for a experiment feel free to check him out.
Thanks Gaim! Well, as I said, it's not quite like a bat in the way we know it- but it's closer to a winged mammal than any other animal.

Quoting Dark Aeon I seriously cannot advise believing in me; I have a tendency to not meet expectations. :P Like that new storyline I promised. Idk what even happened to that. It just...died? *shrug* I need a defibrillator over here...and/or a necromancer.
Awww, I'm sure you'll get it done eventually :P

Quoting Dark Aeon Wow, very nice. Makes me wonder if Blizzard's been working on that successor to The Island he mentioned he might do *pokes Blizzard* Oh, I also have to work on my entry. And my build of Sur'Kosh. So much to do, so little time.
Thanks Aeon! Yeah, I've been looking forward to that successor, though Blizzard has been off the site for quite some time; I'm actually prepping for that- Kirottu here sets up the guy who's gonna be my character when it rolls around. Aw man, you can get all that stuff done! I believe in you! :P

Quoting Callum ~ My man Krickarr taking this boi out. Really neat MOC man! Although not very bat-like, I still think it looks like a really cool little beast (although, I'm not even sure you were going for a "bat" look.) The big, long arms sort of remind me of an orangutan. The colour scheme is on point. The largely black with orange streaks throughout give him a mysterious, but fierce presence. The wings (tendrils?) really bring the MOC together. The use of the Barraki tentacles give him a nice sense of flow and speed, and gives him a streamlined look, which is nice. The face is well constructed, and looks quite menacing, although I think the antlers could be a little better formed, as they are quite flat and bare at the moment. Giving them a little depth like with Umarak would work well. The arms looks good in some angles, but in others, they just look messy and gappy. The use of those long lift arms don't really help with the design. Perhaps if they were hidden better then it would look better. The paws also look a bit strange, and their articulation look severely limited by those aforementioned lift arms. Overall, I think the MOC is built well and looks great, but some of the concepts behind it weren't realized as well as I think they could. Looking forward to Contenders next week!
Thanks Callum! Yeah in regards to the bat thing, it was kind of 50-50; Originally I wasn't going for any kind of real creature, though I did have the bat-thing in the back of my mind, which influenced the final design. I'm glad you like the colour scheme; I spent a while trying to get that perfectly balanced. Yeah, I was originally going for an Umarak-ish design, but that would have required certain pieces that would have broken the colour scheme, hence why they're so flat. -and yeah, as for the forearms, I wasn't too sure about them- I wanted that length due to get that orangutang look as you described, but the placement of the tentacles meant that they were really tough to armour; but I agree- those arms are the weakest part of the whole MOC. Anyway, thank you for your comment, man! See you next week!
