LCBTC R1: Oasis of the Evil Enchantress
Entry for round 1 of the 2017 Lego Castle Building Techniques Contest (LCBTC): Four stalwart heroes attempt to rescue the fair maiden from a dire fate at the hands of the evil enchantress and her undead minions!
About this creation
See the main contest page and the fantastic entries by the other competitors here.

Thanks to Classical Bricks for putting on an exciting contest and for once again making my look to stretch my abilities and knowledge by trying out new techniques!
For this round I chose the Wizard Workshop category, which is quite popular!

Without further ado let’s get to the build!

First off is the enchantress about to steal the youthful energy of her hapless victim. What a great way to stave off wrinkles!

Now for a zoom out on the whole back side.

Next, the oasis area.

And an even closer-up of the palm trees, a slightly new technique, I’ll show ya more on that later in the WIP shots.

Now the river, and river plant things.

The heroic ninja trying to sneak in while the rest of our band of do-gooders make a commotion out front.

More landscape.

Rocks, helpfully transitioning from dark tan fertile land to light tan!

Plants. TOTALLY LEGAL LEGO…

And one of my favorite parts, the wizard’s fire attack! I haven’t seen anyone use upside down arches to make a furrow in the ground… so maybe I made up a new technique? Either way, definitely happy with it.

More explosioney goodness!

The head henchman undead cyclops guy. Yeah. Whatever he is, he’s flying through the air due to the blossoming fireball in front of him.

Another angle of the big bada boom.

The entryway.

Another new technique? …again, I hope. Haven’t seen 1x1 bricks used this way either. Or is it that I don’t pay enough attention? ;)

The entryway/library/breakfast nook.

The business room. Good thing the sorceress installed blood brick on the floor. Or were those white when she first build the house?!

The chandelier, I’m pretty pumped I got a pile of these gold parts at BrickCan, thanks guys, made for a sweet fancy decorative piece!

Some cheese wedges in the wall.

View through the window.

Another angle of the whole thing.

And… another.

And that's all folks! Just a few WIP shots to close this out:

The tree method, as promised, though don't read too much into the flexible rod, I actually mostly used the Lego specialized palm tree trunk pieces.

This was a real fun round, and I got to try out a lot of new stuff. I was going for a Mediterranean / Middle Eastern look and color scheme and terrain, but of course bent to my own fanciful imagination of a fictional magical land. I hope the terrible pictures didn’t detract too much… and that the techniques worked as well as I planned! I should mention I got a lot of inspiration from Tirrell Brown’s awesome desert builds. Thanks for viewing, and good luck to the other competitors!

Quoting Lego Hotwirer WOW. I think my favorite part is the roof tiles, and the idea of having a depression in the ground from the fireball--that was genious!--AND the chandelier.
Thank you so much!

Quoting Classical Bricks I really like the choice of style for this build, Doug! The landscaping by the water is excellent, as is the main building. The full interior is spectacular, especially that chandelier! The upside-down arch technique is really unique and turned out really well. Overall, a great build full of lots of cool techniques. Amazing job! :)
