Today I present to you, a moc almost 5 years in the making! My mini (or is it micro?) Hogwarts school from Harry Potter! Please comment, rate and enjoy!
About this creation
At long last, after almost 5 years, my mini (or is it micro?) version of Hogwarts castle from Harry Potter is finally complete!
I'm not going to chat much here, I'll let the pictures speak for themselves for the most part, but first, a bit of story.
I started this in early 2013, but then moved away from home to go to University.
Every holiday I'd go home with some new parts to add to it and for a long time, not very much happened to it.
Then, this New Year's, when I went home, I finally finished it! I went to take photos... and my camera batteries died! And I'd forgotten to bring my charger with me!
So back under the dust cover it went again, until a few days ago when I was back at my parent's for Easter and I could finally take pictures!
I'm very pleased with the way it turned out. The main castle section is especially good in my opinion.
I'm pleased with the way the whole thing looks, to be honest. Originally, I was just going to make the main section of the castle, and then it just expanded... and expanded... and... you get the idea.
At one point I even considered going right out and creating Hogsmede and the train station too! But that was going to be a bit of a stretch!
To get it as accurate as possible, I spent a long time re-watching the films over and over, taking pictures every time we saw a different angle of the castle or grounds.
I also spent ages playing the more recent games, where you can just free-roam around the castle and grounds.
Of course, as the castle changes throughout the films, I've adjusted the build accordingly. So this representation is (mostly) how the castle appears in the final film. With a couple of towers and turrets that are only in earlier versions added in as well.
I have no idea how long it actually took to make and I don't know how many pieces were used (no it's not glued, either.).
I am hoping that I'll be able to display it at Brick Live 2017, this coming October at the NEC in Birmingham (UK), but we'll have to wait and see about that one.
Anyway, I said I'll let the pictures do the talking and I've not shut up yet, so I shall do now! Enjoy the rest of the images!
So I hope you enjoyed that! It certainly took a heck of a long time to make, so I reeeally hope it's appreciated! Haha! Anyway, thank you for looking, I hope you liked it. If you did, please drop a comment below!
Great work, nice to see the whole area tackled in one moc. Only thing I would change is to have clear cheese slopes for the greenhouses and put some blue baseplates down for the lake at the Base of the castle. Keep up the great work, I just hope that we don't have to wait 5 years for your next model. :)
A fantastic build R.K., five years in the making and worth the wait :). There's a lot of great NPU throughout, especially the little Quidditch Pitch and the odd angles throughout the castles. Very nicely done mate!
