G1 Transformer Bumblebee Version 2 (mini figure scale / transformable)
Here is my second attempt at G1 Bumblebee in Lego, one of the popular characters from Transformer.
About this creation

I wanted to redesign a Bumblebee into a more compact and delicate creation just like the toys line released nowadays. Most to the toys out there takes long time to get it transform, not like the original toys those released in 80's. It is the result of the target buyers are mainly adults rather than children.

This is a completely rebuild version featuring openable door, mini-figure compatible and true to the original G1 look in robot mode.

One of the big challenges is to handle the large back panel, and also to manage the extendable legs and make them look longer.

LetíŽs get ready to transform it.

The transformation is a little bit complicated but not so sloppy. I am still able to do the transformation without taking any part off.

I am showing you the transformation step by step in photos and I wish you can take them as building reference or instruction if you wanted build one of this.

I tried to copy the way that the toys handle the leg transformation, but the major different is they did not consider the space to fit the driver so that the whole car interior can store the thighs and pelvic together.

Transformation is done.

It is a 4 to 6 studs wide car. I wanted to capture the classic Volkswagen Beetle look rather than the original toy look which is much more chubby.

I used another idea to present the rear bumper.

From the bottom view you can see everything fit together neatly.

Thank you for watching!

Even if this wouldn't have been a transformer, that's a great looking beetle! That's some impressive engineering. Great stuff!

Quoting nahtE 724 This is an incredible piece of engineering to be sure. It reminds me of the Has/Tak Masterpiece Bumblebee. Masterfully built, only thing is that His forearms should actually be yellow and his shoulders should be black. A very minor nitpick against an otherwise perfect mini lego Bumblebee.
Thanks nahtE. You are right. From the cartoon, Bumblebee's forearms should be yellow and shoulders should be black. I awared that when I was designing it but I couldn't find the way to follow the colour scheme when considering the colour in car mode. Haha.

Wow Alex! It is so difficult to get the shaping of Bee's VW mode to look right and you've done a fantastic job! Bot mode is excellent too and articulate as always! I love all the details you've included and the creative use of parts (guns for bumpers)! Of course, the fact that he fits a Minifig is icing on the cake :) Brilliant work!

Getting these minibots accurate to the original toys is really tricky, but fitting a minifigure in as well? You like to set yourself a challenge! But one that you have successfully met here, very well done indeed! The detailing on the car mode and poseability of robot mode are both very impressive.

Nice job giving him that vintage look! I really like all the detail in car form...the smaller back window, sloping rear, and that iconic VW face. Robot form is awesome...while his face is bland, I can overlook that due to BB's all around coolness! Good job!
