Battle On Scarif
Hi guys! Today I present my first attempt on a large scale diorama, something I've never made before. Back in October 2016, 2 friends of mine and me were brainstorming about doing a big diorama for some Star Wars and Lego events in 2017. With Rogue One coming out by the end of that year we chose to build a scene from that movie. Scarif was chosen and by the end of November I started building. i finished this piece yesterday and I am very pleased with the result. In a few weeks I will take this to Brickmania Wetteren (Belgium) an event organised by our local LUG group: BELUG. lets take a closer look at this thing shall we?
About this creation
The base consists of 6 48x48 baseplates, but the total dimensions are 148 studs length by 98 studs wide.
At first the scene would be build on 4 32x32 baseplates but that was way to small if we would add some vehicles and ships.

In the empty area is room to fit 6 32x32 tan baseplates with the rest of the forrest, the bunker and the AT-ACT walker...

...so you get this when it's all connected :)

I wanted a clean look and also make it low budget. Most of that was spend on the palmtrees and plants.

The AT-ACT walker is build from Raskolnikov's AT-AT (you'll find that one on Rebrickable)I only redesigned the head and made some changes to the center of the main body. I also mixed in some sand blue like in the recent Rogue One sets.
The doors of the bunker are motorised with 2 medium PF motors.

Some action pictures:

You can find lot's of W.I.P pictures on my Facebook page:

Another total shot: I'm looking forward to see the whole diorama since this is just my part of the build ;)

That's it guys! I hope you all enjoy. If there are some people out there with more expierience in building large scale dioramas and have some tips for me, please share!
I want to build more of this stuff in the future and help and tips are always much appreciated!

I want to thank my friends Sander and Tom for their advice and help, my friend from my favourite Facebook Lego groups Lego Star Wars builders Gather, LAKC and Lego Star Wars collections.

A big thank to the people at mijnblokje.be for the custom printed and engraved bricks and of course you guys for taking the time to stop by and look at this piece.

Talk to you guys soon,

Greetz,

Pieter

Thx man! It was based on a lot of screenshots from the movie because I wanted to incorperate as much detail as possible.I couldn't believe it turned out so good, since I don't have too much expierience in building larger scale diorama's ;)
Quoting Silver Sword05 I am in NO WAY surprised that his is MotD! This is truly a work of art! I love how the AT-ACT just dominates the entire thing, dwarfing the trees ... A well deserved MotD.

Hi Matthew! The palm tree trunks and the studs all came from bricklink. I used about 800-1000 studs for the ocean (1 stud high) and about a 150 palm tree trunks. Good luck with your build! Show some pictures when it's finished ;)
Quoting Matthew Smis Awesome moc! My friends and I are doing something like it, could you ansewe a few questions? 1. Where did you get the palm tree trunks? 2. Where did you get the trans-light blue studs? 3. How high is the water, 2 or 3 trans blue studs? Thanks! This will really help us!

Quoting TMNS 5097 When I think I'm getting pretty good at building, I see a creation like this. *Sigh* :P Anyway, great work here, the water and sand is most likely my favorite part about this! Keep it up! God bless! :)

Thx! I wanted to make it as realistic as possible. Not bad for a first try in my opinion, but still have lots to learn in diorama building though ;)
Quoting Justin Li This is awesome! The beach looks super realistic.

It really is isn't it ;) When I just started building, there were just a few diorama's out there. I always wantes to do a big diorama with walkers, but since Hoth and Endor were done so many times before I chose Scarif. The decission was made as soon as I saw the first trailer of Rogue One. I really wanted to put as much details in there as possible. I'm looking forward to see my diorama joined together with the other part that my friend is building ;)
Quoting El Barto ! Looks like Scarif is the new Hoth. Very effective layout. Although it's a large diorama, you've still managed to pack a lot of detail in there. Awesome build!

Looking forward to that ;) I will do some more (Star Wars) diorama's in the future, but I'm also going to concentrate more on other themes like pirates and city MOC's. I've been doing Star Wars MOCS since I restarted with Lego, but I want to some other stuff that was cool back when I was a kid.
Quoting swash buckler That's really great- I am planning something similar soon since I am also going to do Scarif battle.

Thank you sir! I've spend a lot of time of putting in subtle details without overdoing it. Details like that make even the smallest MOC look awesome ;) thx for passing by!
Quoting Marley Mac Epic! I love how you added so many little details, you don't normally get to see many of those in large-scale models like this. Keep up the awesome work!

Thx man! I saw a few diorama's of this scene, most of them even larger than mine, but only with 5 trees or so on it. I wanted a real forrest and I think there are 30 trees in total on the display now :)
Quoting Philippe Moisan It may seems like a small detail, but I really like the trees.
