About this creation
Date: January 3th 2095
After a long walk and a couple of close scrapes with the Gators I had arrived at the harbor.
I stopped at the last spot I saw My Grandfather.
Damn it I miss that guy...

However when I started to move on I saw something sparkle in the crack in the sidewalk.

I used my Wrench-staff (I finally came up with a good name for it.) to pull the object out.

It resembled a Pocket Watch but I soon noticed it was a Com-Link. It was a little rusty and the projector was damaged but the data card was in near perfect condition. I wonder why someone would leave something like this lying around but then I saw the initials on it. J.H.B. It was My Grandfather's. He must've hidden it here so the Imperials wouldn't find it. He must've been hiding something we didn't want anyone to find. Or maybe he wanted me to find it. Non the less I had a goal to accomplish and it was more important than pondering on the past. So I tucked it into my pack and continued onward.

I then came to the door of the warehouse which had been covered in Kudzu vine.
Ya know the weeds I mentioned before? Kudzu is one of them. The gas made it practically Fire proof!

After almost thirty minutes of cutting I finally found the control panel
I tried a punching a few buttons to see if it still had power and sure enough it did. I then pulled off the keypad, rewired the lock and pressed the enter button.

The door slid open with a hydraulic hiss and the grind of rusty gears.
Jack: Here goes nothing. I muttered to myself as I entered the building.

The room was rather humid and there were plants growing in the floor due to the skylight but nothing some DIY couldn't fix. It would serve it's purpose. What purpose was that? A safe house. With the increasing amount of flooding lately I needed somewhere on higher ground.

After I unpacked I dug through the junk left behind by the GI.

The most valuable things I found were an old helmet and a Chest plate which had Henderson printed on it which sadly was not my size.

but what was under the armor was big surprise.
Jack: Another Com-link! Maybe I can salvage parts from this to fix Grandpa's.

That evening I got out my tools and got to work. I decided to connect the components of the Com-links with my old Data-pad.
Jack: And done! I hope this works. I haven't talked to Mom in months!

Oh yeah. I didn't mention my Mom. She is a GI Medic and Engineer. Which is the reason her and my siblings left on the first ships off planet. (Which was the worst Birthday present ever by the way!)

I pressed the power button and a square hologram appeared displaying my Data-pad's screen.
Jack: Yep. I'm a genius. Now where did I put Mom's number?..

I sat the data-pad on a turned over box and pulled out a slip of paper and entered Mom's number.

Dr. Devorah Brickton: Hello?
Jack: Mom?
Devorah: Jack?! Is that you?
Jack: Yes Mom. I finally got my hands on a Com-Link.
Devorah: Oh my heavens! What Happened?! I've been trying to reach you for months! I thought I gave you a Com-link before we left!
Jack: You did. It was eaten by an Alligator. They've been acting strange since the Shift. So how are you guys doing?
Devorah: You're sisters and I love it on Qoter. You really should move here Jack.
Jack: Er. No thanks. I rather stay In a place I understand the language.
Devorah: Are you sure? I can send My research Cruiser over to pick you up.
Jack: I'm sure. Although I'll keep it in mind if the Gators develop weapons...
Devorah: Well Alright. Is there anything you needed to tell me?
Jack: Not anything you wouldn't have to report to the feds! Ha ha.
Devorah: Okay then. Try not to get arrested. There are still GI in Georgia and Mississippi. I love you.
Jack: I love you too Mom.

And with that the hologram ended.
Jack: I better hit the hay. It'll be a long day tomorrow gathering building materials...

As I was dozing off. I thought about why the Shift happened. There's no Scientific reason for it. Only thing I could figure is it was a Higher power.
Jack: Hey God?! It'd be nice if you warned us before this kind of thing happened!

"AMEN TO THAT!"

Jack: What the heck?

I leaped up and turned around to see a pair of red eyes glowing from the closet.

Creature in the closet: 'ELLO THERE.

I grabbed my sword and pointed it at the creature.

Jack: W..what do you want?..
Creature: OH A LOT OF THINGS! BUT WHAT I BE REALLY NEED YE TO BE DOING JACK IS GETTIN' ME OUT OF THIS CLOSET!
Jack: How do you know My name?!
Creature: THAT BE WHAT YE MOTHER CALLED YE.
Jack: You heard that?! How long have you been here?
Creature: TEN YEARS IN AUGUST.
Jack: But that's Impossible. The GI were here then!
Creature: WHO DO YE THINK LOCKED ME IN HERE?!! NOW LET ME OUT OR I'LL RESORT TO DRASTIC MEASURES!
Jack: How? You're trapped!

Voice: But I'm not...

I turned to see a massive rusted Automaton had sneaked up behind me and was holding me at gunpoint.
Creature: KAIN! IT BE 'BOUT TIME YE GOT HERE!!
Jack: *Gulp.*
Automaton: Boo!

*Jack faints from shock*

Creature: KAIN! YOU JUST KILLED MY ONLY WAY OUT OF THIS DAMNED THING!
KAIN: Oh shut up Iron Bones. He's only in shock.

KAIN walks over and unlocks the door.
Iron Bones: ARG! FREE AT LAST! WHAT KEPT YE?
KAIN: Well I didn't get the Captain's orders to come here until now.
Iron Bones: DID HE SAY WHAT TO DO WITH THE KID?
KAIN: Well he said to take him "Home" so I guess we go there.
Iron Bones: ALRIGHT. YE GRAB THE KID AND I'LL GET HIS STUFF.
KAIN: Right. Last one there sets up the charging station!
KAIN Grabs Jack and dashes out.
Iron Bones: HEY! YE CHEATED!! *SIGH.*
Iron Bones gathers up Jack's things and leaves.

To be continued...

Quite a nice storyline you have started here. Nice characters, cool story, and some funny robots to boot! I really like how Jack and his mother are both on opposing sides yet they still find a way to keep in touch, interesting dynamic. Looking forward to reading the next episode!
