GBC module Splash!
A ball transport machine that challenges gravity. Watch the video to discover how it works. This Great Ball Contraption (GBC) unit can be part of a chain of GBCs that transports balls from one module to another.

Design features

Six pistons driven by crankshafts transport balls from the input buffer to the basket (main photo).

The basket is balanced by a counter weight at the back side (left & right photo). Balls entering the basket increase the centre of gravity of the loaded basket. As soon as the centre of gravity exceeds the basket pivot point the basket becomes unstable and will turn around. An overflow circuit is visible at the back side of the GBC unit. In case the input buffer becomes over loaded part of the balls will be transported via the bypass.

Enjoy building your own GBC!

I like GBC modules that not only have a cool mechanism, but also look great even when they are static. This is one of them.

Superb mechanical and visual design! Our LUG is building a GBC this year, and I'm now sorely tempted to build a module along the same lines.
