Master Helgran (The Island RPG)
I bet you didn't expect to see me so shortly after the last post, did you? Well I've got a very special thing to showcase today... a new enemy for the Island RPG! This is going to be fun...! (thunderstorms)
About this creation
So yeah, as I mentioned, this is a NPC character/enemy for The Island RPG, the wondrous brainchild of the messianic Blizzard -! So yeah, a lot of the lore relates to that, hence people not in the game probably won't get much out of the following backstory.

Oh yeah, and JOIN THE ISLAND RPG!

Anyway, without further ado:

"...see beyond the ice... see him, see fear... drink deep the blood... become ice, destroy him...”
-Helgran, The Island RPG (Van'Shu Village Thread #4)

Master Helgran:
Master Helgran was an Agori from the Island of Botana, who eventually devolved into a horrific monster. He was recognised by his pointy hat, snow white cape and black, mangled great-sword. Helgran was a significant figure in Botana’s history, being the founder of the Helgran village and its warriors, both of which named after him. As an Agori, his fighting skill and agility were unmatched; as the monster, his strength was uncanny. Helgran was a stern yet noble hearted leader, though in the end he was little more than a raving lunatic.

Helgran was one of the first Agori settlers on the island of Botana, and one of the four esteemed peers of the Elder One. These five Agori set out to different parts of the island and established a village for their followers. While the Elder One ventured to the north, Helgran established his village in the east, in the centre of the bountiful steppes. Being of a bullish disposition, he decided that his village would specialise in military prowess, and opened the school of the Helgran Warriors, who soon became prestigious for their heroic deeds. Eventually though, the warriors were reduced to little more than hired goons, employed only for Rahi control. Deeply disgusted by this, Helgran forsook his village to live his life alone in an underground cavern.

The next time Helgran resurfaced was during the invasion of the Comers, in which he slew several of the beasts and brought them down for study. Soon he became obsessed with the Comers’ blood, particularly its strengthening yet corrupting quality. This obsession drove him insane; he believed that the Agori would be unable to defeat the threat without being strengthened by the blood. Over time, he took regular doses of the blood, gradually transforming into this mangled mockery of both Comer and Agori. Once the Fearbringer awoke, Helgran decided that only he could save Botana, and drank deep of the blood, completing his transformation. He sought to find the Elder One and make him drink the blood too, so that he could become like Helgran and align with his cause. Thus, he set out for Van’shu village under the cover of night.

Upon arriving, Helgran destroyed the Van’shu library and stole the Scroll of Ancients, hoping to catch the attention of the Elder One. He retreated deeper into the library, waiting to be found. He was eventually discovered by the library’s owner, Vos, and a company of Agori. After much arguing, he eventually managed to get them to summon the Elder One. Helgran beseeched all present to drink the blood and allow him to lead them against the Fearbringer. Horrified, the Agori refused; Helgran then picked up his sword and attempted to force then. What ensued was a long and fierce battle, one which Helgran dominated. Eventually however, he was humbled by the combined efforts of the Elder One and Ramza the Sanguine Knight. The final blow was delivered by Fotoh the Unchallenged, a former Helgran Warrior, who stabbed him with a salted blade.

In his dying breath, Master Helgran lamented that the Agori had doomed Botana by killing him. The Comer blood then began to react violently to the salt on the blade, and his body disintegrated.

So this is what Master Helgran would've looked like before his... er, fall from grace. Yeah, the tissue cape is a little tacky, but I wanted him to have a plain white cape, and I wasn't gonna make one for this.

Without the cape and the sword. As you can see, this was just a table-scrap build, just showing you what he would have looked like before...

...well, before this:

Front. For those in the RPG, I imagine you can understand why I was building him up so much.

Back.

The profile shot, to really show how messed up this guy is. You can imagine the hind legs being the original ones from his Agori form, and the front legs just sprouted out of him during his transformation.

Obviously I tried to make this build somewhat resemble Blizzard's Comers, the main enemies of the RPG, as Helgran has essentially tried to become one of these creatures himself- in a twisted, grotesque kind of way.

He's still got the sword- that's why it was so big on the Agori build; to make sure it was big enough for the mutated Helgran to still use.

As you might imagine, Helgran ended up in a great deal of pain after his transformation; so much that his face is fixed in that sullen, agonized expression.

Height comparison with Fita, an Agori NPC, and Izotor, the Protector of Ice. Yeah, this guy towers over any Agori on the island.

He's still fairly big when compared to my Toa MOCs, too:

He's even bigger than those on the larger end of the medium scale, like Solorak here.

He's about the same size as the Guardian of the Gate, my second biggest Titan still around, after Thanatos of course.

The showdown between Fotoh the Unchallenged, my character for the RPG, and his childhood hero, Master Helgran

To my friends in the RPG: I look forward to taking this guy down with you.

To everyone else: JOIN THE ISLAND RPG!

Quoting Daniel H. Wow... that's amazing. I still feel bad about flaking out on the RP... what happened to my character?
Thanks Daniel! Yeah, it's a shame, but when you're busy it's understandable. Your character kinda disappeared after you left- but when the Island RPG ended, there was this big epilogue that mentioned how your character went down in history for helping to gather the other heroes.

Quoting Defiant Banana I haven't been on this site in forever, but it's nice to see you are still making imposing models. Master Helgram has that sick, leering bestiality I look for in a MOC.
Thanks man! Good to see you again! :D

Quoting Toa Gaim Awesome and Merry Christmas! Toa Hiroshi:"From hero to monster, I'll see to it that you'll be sent to the Pit for your crimes against the people monster! *Sword readied*"
Thanks Gaim! You too! Helgran: "Ahahaha! What crimes? I am saving my people, and leading them into a new age of enlightenment... your understanding of the situation is immensely superficial!"

Quoting Dark Aeon Very formidable. A bit too much visible technic for me, but otherwise very nice. The sword is also simply but interesting, and contrasts nicely with the character himself. Look forward to seeing how he plays out in the RPG.
Thanks Aeon! Yes, there's a lot of Technic going on in the build, especially in the back legs, which is certainly an acquired taste. Yeah, the sword was a tad last minute, but I liked how it turned out. And yes, I imagine this shall be a fun foe to fight in the RPG!

Thanks Blizzard! Yes, I was inspired by the Comers for this character, for obvious reasons, while having it look warped, twisted and unnatural. I'm glad it makes you happy. :P
