The Moscow Class Freighter was the RFSA's counterpart to the Independence Class Freighter of the West. Used in conjunction with the Independence Class in the early years after the UE's formation, but before the standardization of ships and components...
About this creation
Minifigure to Scale.
~ History ~
The Moscow Class Freighter was designed out of the then Russian Federation(s) need for a Space Freighter which could ship cargo to and from its Martian colony after the successful launch of the United States Independence Class Freighter. The ship was first blueprinted sometime in 2071, However the first ship, UE 001MF "Москва" was not ready for flight until March 11, 2092, and only after significantly rushing forward in the designing and building of the ship. The ship would see service until just after the Battle of Earth's conclusion in 2145 after which the UE gave decommissioning orders to the surviving 3 ships crews, 2 of which complied and 1, UE 013MF "Джокер", refused to acknowledge the orders and spent the next 265 years carrying out smuggling missions to and from Earth. During this time the ship experienced 12 full crew changes.
~ Design ~
The Москва Class Freighter was designed to allow the Russian Federation to participate in the manned shipping industry between Mars and Earth after the successful launch of the Independence struck hard at the Russian leadership.
The ship to feature its own Nuclear Fusion Reactors which were designed prior to the ones that were jointly developed by the NASA, ESA, and Japanese Space Agencies. Using these engines the projected journey time was to be 6 weeks versus the 7 weeks of the initial Independence Class.
Initially the ship was to be a space only vessel and as such the RFSA planned on using a space station type construction with the reactors attached to the outside. However after Alien contact was made the RFSA revise the design to include an Armored Cargo Hold and Anti-Ship Lasers out of fear that the Aliens may attack Human Shipping Vessels, this notion was later proven correct after the Pluto Raids of 2117-2122 and the Battle for Earth from 2125-2145. Also during this revision the RFSA decided to one-up the Independence Class Freighter and design a ship which could take off and land from a planets surface this added another selling point to those in the Space Commercial Industry who could then choose the Москва Class as an armored transport and a complete trip vessel, versus the Independence that was not a complete trip vessel nor was armored.
Being initially designed as a modular space station type ship, the Москва did not feature an Artificial Gravity system, instead the crew were free to float around the ship and the cargo was strapped in place in the Cargo Hold. A note worth mentioning is that one can distinguish if a UE/UNSC ship featured an Artificial Gravity system by looking at the arrangements of the crews sleeping area, in a Zero-G ship the beds are strapped either vertically, or horizontally to the ships walls whereas a ship with a Gravity System will have its beds in a normal flat horizontal position.
The Life Support system featured a new chemical compound used to scrub the air of Carbon Dioxide. This chemical was extremely volatile and would ignite if not properly maintained, this resulted in 3 of the Freighters (UE 012MF, UE 017MF, & UE 018MF) being lost due to their Life Support Systems igniting resulting in an explosion. In the final two ships of the class, as well as an upgrade made by the crew of the UE 013MF, this chemical was changed for Activated Carbon. The chemical in question remains classified.
Main Engineering was located in the thinnest area of the ship and included Life Support and the Power Plant for the ship, The Mk. Ic Энергия Fusion Generator which provided power to the ship and its engines. The Fusion Generator was an incredibly safe reactor, the design of which would be contributed by the RFSA for use in the "Vengeance" Class Dreadnought. Within Main Engineering were 2 Airlocks to be used in conjunction with the rear Cargo Loading Ramp which acted as a 3rd Airlock initially these airlocks were unstable and would explosively decompress if not precisely closed, this resulted in 4 ships (UE 003MF, UE 004MF, UE 010MF, & UE 011MF) being lost due to explosive decompression which damaged the ships beyond repair. The problem was eventually fixed by the time the last two ships were built as well as the crew of the UE 013MF performing an Airlock Upgrade themselves.
Forward of Main Engineering was the Living Area, this area was a very tight Zero-G space but not as tight as the 1 man 16 x 16 foot space cockpit of the Independence class. However when one realizes that this was a space for 3 people they can then grasp the scope of its compactness. This area featured the 3 sleeping bags for the crew to the right and the Facilities to the left. These facilities included Hot and Cold food and supply storage, a Food Rehydrator, a Space Toilet, a Computer for keeping in contact with its home base, a clip board for notes worthy of remembering about the ships cargo, and a docking port for the crew members recreational devices. Above the Living Area was the Turbo Laser Turret used by the Gunner to protect the ship from debris and other vessels.
Forward of the Living Area was the Cockpit which held 2 manned positions for the Pilot and Gunner, as well as a floating position for the Captain when he was required to provide orders for his crew. When he was not ordering his crew the Captain would float throughout the ship checking the main systems for abnormalities as well as checking on the Cargo Hold to make sure the Cargo was still in place.
Rear of main Engineering was the Cargo Hold which remains to be the largest cargo hold used by a ship yet. This area featured 4 tie down points for cargo and the ships Space Suit which a crew member would use when taking a Space Walk to asses damage to their ship or gather supplies from another ship. This area also featured a walkway which ran through the center and in between cargo tie down points. This was because the crew entered and exited the ship from the rear of the Cargo Hold. This area featured the armor of the ship at 10 feet thick on the sides, and 7 feet thick on the roof and floor. The Armor on the sides thinned out around the engines, but the engines themselves made up for the lost thickness.
To the sides of the Cargo Hold are the massive Mk. Va(Later Vb) Конструкторское Бюро Химавтоматики Fusion Reactor Engines. These engines could not provide the shear speed that the GE 420-69B Reactors of the Independence Class could, however they produced more than enough power to allow the ship to take off and land on a planets surface. They also acted as additional armor for the Cargo Hold where the armor of the Hold thinned out to allow for their mounting to the ship. These reactors were the enhanced versions of the Mk. Ia Конструкторское Бюро Химавтоматики Fusion Reactor Engines which were originally designed to propel the ship back and forth from Mars and Earth, however after the discovery of Alien life in 2088 and the subsequent first contact in 2090 the engines were rapidly redesigned after the RFSA discovered by the manned mission to Pluto that NASA, ESA, and the Japanese Space Agencies had successfully implemented Fusion Reactor technology, even though the RFSA designed theirs first. The redesign allowed for faster travel to complete its original journey to Mars from Earth in 3.5 weeks. But this rapid redesign and implementation without proper testing came at a cost and 6 (UE 005MF, UE 006MF, UE 007MF, UE 009MF, UE 014MF, & UE 015MF) ships were lost due to Engine Explosions. This problem was eventually fixed by the time the final two ships UE 019MF and UE 020MF were built. The crew of the UE 013MF were the the only ones to refit their existing ship with the enhanced Vb Engines.

~ Service ~
From 2092-2146 the Москва Class Freighter ran routes throughout the Solar System carrying sensitive and classified cargo. Whereas the Independence Class was used for more mundane and public cargo, the Москва Class achieved its intent and was used for Military and other important cargo. Sometimes this meant going to "Hot Areas" in the Solar System and other times it meant shipping cargo to far out locations and as a result 4 ships were lost due to enemy fire both by Aliens and Space Piracy which had become prevalent in the beginning years of the Space Commercial Industry. The ships were used as impromptu Military vessels during the Pluto Raids and again to support the Vengeance Class Dreadnoughts during the Battle for Earth. During these times 13 ships were lost due to the result of the RFSA's rushing their production into service without proper testing of the components this resulted in a heavily tarnished record and even after the RFSA fixed the problems in the design for the final 2 ships, after the Battle for Earth in the year 2146 the Москва Class Freighter was officially decommissioned. The final 2 ships (UE 019MF & UE 020MF) complied to the Decommissioning Orders and their vessels were scrapped. However UE 013MF "Джокер" refused to acknowledge these orders and instead turned to smuggling runs for the small resistance force that was left on Earth after its fall. The Джокер was the only Earth ship to successfully maintain shipping routes with Earth after its fall for the next 265 years. After which the Solar Systematic Treaty of 2,401AD was put into effect and light shipping between the Alien inhabited Earth and the Humans was officially reopened as a means to secure the lives of the small Human population that was directly descendant from the initial resistance force left behind after the fall of Earth in 2145. These Humans certainly wouldn't be alive today had the Джокер acknowledged its Decommissioning Orders and returned to space dock to be scrapped, thus the Джокер is credited with saving the Earth population of Humans from Extinction.
~ Future Outlook ~
Due to the over 2 centuries and counting of successful use thanks to the UE 013MF "Джокер", versus the first 54 years of service which tarnished its shipping record the UNSC has decided to restart production of the improved final variant of the Москва Class Freighter of which only 2 original ships were built with upgraded modernizations to the ship. The UNSC plans to specifically use them as commercial freighters and allow the Excalibur Class Heavy Frigate to conduct high profile shipping, as well as its other various duties. This second production of the freighter will feature an enhanced Power Plant to cope with the Wormhole generator which will be added to the ship, as well as 18 Phaser banks along the hull and engines. This new variant will be dubbed the "Кремль" Class Freighter by its Russian designers. This Freighter is expected to enter service in 2416 and serve for 200 years or more.
The Cockpit of the Moscow which featured a 3 man crew, a Pilots Station in the forward section, Gunnery Station behind him, and the Captain behind them. When not directly giving orders the Captain was to float around the ship performing checks on all of the systems as well as making sure the cargo was secure.
The Sleeping Area for the 3 crew members, note the Zero-G beds that are applied to the walls.
The forward side of the Left Living Module, this side featured the Hot and Cold supply storage area, on top of the cold storage unit was a Water Dispenser. On the left wall was the Food Rehydrator.
The rear side of the Left Living Module, this side featured a Zero-G Toilet, as well as the Computer and clipboard for things of note for the crew.
Main Engineering and Main Life Support.
The massive rear Cargo Hold of the ship was protected by 10 feet of armor plate on the sides, and even more in the rear when the Reactor Engines are taken into account. Forward of the Cargo Hold you can see one of the two Airlocks which were in the front and rear of Main Engineering, used in conjunction with the Space Suit as well as the cargo hold loading ramp, the crew could disembark from the vehicle while in space.

A sort of a mix between a Halo Pelican, a Star Trek ship, and a Space Station, this was the 4th somewhat big ship I made in late middle school, the first being the SK-434-T, followed by the Dyson Carrier, and soon to be remade in LDD Vengeance Class Dreadnought (This was before the second alternate timeline Star Trek movie came out... so I didn't steal it.) This ship and the SK-434-T were around for about two years while I played with them, and tinkered with new Lego techniques, most notably: Brick Built Airlocks, and a Multi Deck Design... These would later be incorporated into the Abott Heavy Frigate and subsequent Excalibur Class Heavy Frigate.
Also in the "Money Shot" picture with the Alien fighter, the "Dianoga" fighter has actually been on my PC for over 4 years I've just never gotten around to uploading it. The issue I have with it now is it is so old that the pieces in LDD have enhanced, and my techniques have enhanced so much that I don't know if it is even truly worth it for me to upload it... I might just rebuild it and then upload it. Considering LDD is no longer receiving updates I don't have to worry about building something one way, and a month later an update comes out with new pieces which would make it look better. (This is a big reason why even though I've had LDD for 5 years I have tried to limit the amount of things I've made because I don't want to have to remake them due to better parts)

Awesome build! Love all the great interior detail to go along with the thoroughly descriptive information!
Thanks man, I'm trying to remember how I made the Vengeance Class Dreadnought that I mentioned in the post... Once I post it then the LDD files for my ships will be up to date and everything after it will be new ships, not old ones. However personally speaking, I'm extremely proud of how the battle picture came out...
