LoM MBC: Mystery
Season 2: A Leader Born Season 2; Episode 1
About this creation
Rain. Rain was all it seemed to do during the fall on the lush Enalican island, Mercado, especially around the coastal city Pescado. The strong winds would sweep over the jungles surrounding the city, causing the branches to sway violently and the trunks to howl like wounded animals. Lightning would light the sky revealing the many merchant and navy vessels being tossed by the frothing waves. Few would venture from their homes on nights like this. Mystery seemed to be around every windswept corner.

A mysterious cloaked man stood beside a bejeweled stone fountain, his broad shoulders getting slapped by the blowing sugarcane planted around the fountain. Pulling his drenched hood lower over his face, the dark man gazed at the shadow-covered fort of Joric Dragian, lord of Pescado, as if awaiting someone from inside. The sound of squelching boots from behind caused the man to spin around, facing a massive shadow. Fighting the wind, the wet man approached the giant shadow.

“Is that you, Captain Riese?” called the broad man.

“Aye, it’s me, Raphael,”the massive shadow whispered gruffly. “Speak in whispers; our voices will carry in a wind like this.”

Raphael Boru opened his mouth to ask a question to Joseph Riese, captain of the ship, Golden Giant.

“Shush,” Captain Riese hissed putting his huge hand over Raphael’s mouth. “I’ll do the talking. I’ll be going away for a few days tomorrow. I am leaving you in charge and, if it comes to pass, as captain should I not return.”

“Me?” said Raphael shocked by the somewhat grim announcement. Concealing his surprise, Raphael asked quickly.

“Why not Orlaz the dwarf?”

“My first mate?” replied Captain Riese, expecting the question. “I asked him already. He refused and said he was coming with me.”

Raphael thought he could detect a smile on the stern face of his captain, though the deep shadows made it difficult to tell.

“Why does this have to be secret?” Raphael queried, glancing at the fort behind him. “This does after all concern Lord Dragian as mediator of the Warlords of the Waves.”

“Yes, it would make sense,” replied Captain Riese, his darting eyes searching the shadows for movement. “To include Lord Dragian in our discussion and I shall inform him of my choice tomorrow before I leave. But I suspect him of…”

Breaking off suddenly, Captain Riese listened carefully. Leaning down closer to Raphael’s ear, he hissed fiercely.

“I shall tell you more upon my return.”

Spinning on his heel, Captain Riese vanished into the howling night. Raphael stood in the pouring rain, puzzled by the captain’s final words. Realizing the storm was worsening, Raphael sloshed off through the puddled street. Before he had gone four paces, Raphael felt strong arms wrap around him and the coldness of steel at his neck.
“If’n ye take command of that ship, matey,” growled a muffled voice in his ear. “Ye’ll be feedin’ the sharks afore long.”

His unknown assailant threw Raphael to the hard wet ground and disappeared into the deepening gloom. Raphael scrambled to his feet and looked around perplexed. It was indeed a mysterious night!

Quoting Promar Quadratus Super job here Jacob! I loved finally getting down to the full-view pic and seeing the incredible cobblestone technique and the "illegal" circular fountain (really caught my eye considering the reputation I have regarding such things ;) ). I really like how that water technique looks in the first picture, that's actually the reason that I stopped to look at this build. Altogether fantastic work, you've inspired me for sure! God bless, ~Promar~

Even if you didn't invent the stones pattern style, it is still used very well here! Love the whole build, the fountain is excellent and the reeds are a great touch!

Thanks for all the nice comments about the path. I forgot to mention it's not actually my design; it's based off of gid617 (Kai NRG)'s build: https://www.flickr.com/photos/gid617/26774284244/in/dateposted/

Quoting C Stucky Great build and nice idea for the stones. I'm not sure exactly what the 1x1 cilinders are supposed to be, though. Great story as well.
They're supposed to be sugarcane.

Love the path! Those sugercane things look a bit out of place, but the fountain is nice. And your story's getting interesting, too. :o
