Star Wars Sandcrawler with interior
Over the years builders sometimes made impressive Sandcrawlers. Mine is inspired by the best of them. I suppose my biggest challenge was turning this display set into a playset. The removable roof parts open the full minifigure sized interior where you can have access to all the play features. The model contains 15255parts and took 2 years to build it (Digital and real brick version)
About this creation

Lower the front gate, pull out de conveyor belt and lower the crane by using the clutch.

Remove the roof top ...

And see the full interior with 4 levels all connected by stairs or ladders

Back control center on levels 3 and 4

Jawa's at work

At the front gate

Opening this hatch shows the steering control center

Steering control center "cockpit"

Comparison with the UCS set from Lego. Mesures of my Sandcrawler are 96cm long, 50cm high and 32 wide

Top view with two removeable panels

Engine details

Another removeable panel

Engines

To get a solid structure outside and interior have been build up together (everything is connected ) That's why I needed to make a virtual model on LDD.

Wheels are also constructed as a separated unit

I used brown, reddish brown and dark brown to make the engines

The belt was build as a separated unit and while building integrated in the model

Mounting of the 4 wheel units

Ball joints are holding the front and side panels in place

The opening and closing system of the front gate is simple

More ball joints to keep the front panels in place

Digital images from the model

Model contains 15255 parts

Quoting steve ALLEN Hi Paul Do you have the 4 largest LLD files fully converted and saved to step by step building instructions as these files are taking forever due to their size to generate I have been generating the first now for 12 hours and have only reached about 15%. If so is there some way you could forward them on. I purchased the Instructions back on the 12th Feb 2018 Best Steve
Hi Steve, I've used the LDD files to build it. This is the fastest way. You use the Hide tool and the undo Arrow to hide and show the parts. It allows you to do it logically (the parts appear the way YOU want , and you can rotate it while you're building. If you wait long enough your LDD will produce some unlogical building "thing" or LDD will crash. Even smaler complicated files generated by LDD are chaotic. Believe me , I've tried. So it's not even worth trying. If I would have a step by step instruction I would have posted in the description, but it's well clear that it are LXF (LDD) files. And with knowledge of LDD and patience you will have fun in building it. But this is not something you build as a non stop build you can finish in a couple of days. It took 8 months to create the digital version and another 4 months (of and on) to build it. Take care.

A massive and impressive build. I like how the scale gives you space on the exterior panels to use different colours get the worn, used future look. I also like how there's space inside for a great interior and it's accessible and playble too. Excellent.

Quoting Samir Lrhoul A great work and very nice details ! I saw you've added incomplet instructions. Are you planning to share the lxf file ?
Hi Samir. The lxf (ldd) files are in no way building instructions. I don't know if you're familiar with ldd, but the generated instruction is (for larger parts) useless. On the other hand it is almost impossible to build it without the files. There are large parts (files) and smaler (files) Each of them allow you to build a unit, that fits to the bigger model. I can contact you but I'll need you're (a ) mail.
