Hello boys and girls :) Today I present to you a sideproject that I finished a few weeks ago. Side project you say? Yes well, working on a large scale project like my Venator isn't always easy... Sometimes you don't have a budget to order parts. In that case it's hard to just sit and wait untill you have some money to spend on more bricks, while not building at all in the meantime. That's what happened in my case, but instead of just sitting there I made this awesome looking TIE fighter. Most of my firends bought the official set by Lego, but I didnt like the pricetag, especially what you get for it in return (but that's my opinion) Instead of buying it, I made this episode 7 version with spare parts I had in stock and the instructions of the original set. Let's take a closer look, shall we?
About this creation
One of the best looking ships from the new movie in opinion :)
Here you can see them in action.
Frontview: The cockpit was ready fairly quickly because you don't need a lot of special parts. Just a lot black and red slopes. The cockpitwindow and a stickersheet of set 75101 were the only things that I bricklinked.
Sideview: I used the round stickers from the previous mentioned stickersheet. Other changes include the use of a lot of 2x4 lbg tiles instead of the big 8x16 lbg tiles (These cost a lot!!)
I never likes the matte tiles next to the shiny ones anyway.
Close up of the wing detail:
Cockpit close up. Normally the red line on the side has to go all the way to the window.
To get this translated to Lego however, I bumped into some difficulties, since you would see red parts inside of the cockpit... Something I wanted to avoid as much as possible. I had to compromise and ended up with the way it now looks. Still pretty happy with that ;)
Rearview: Since this a two seater, the gunner in the back also needs a window (So that they at least have a chance of hitting something :p ) You can also see my setup of the Twin Ion Engine.
Cockpit guns: The gunner in the back of the ship can use these to fire at enemy ships that fly behind the Tie Fighter. This gun can rotate a full 360° to fire from different angles.
Cockpit inside: Seat setup with dual controls (one for pilot, one for gunner)
The family is now complete :)
Defending Starkiller Base
Some of these were used in the Battle Of Takodana:
That's it guys, I hope you liked it!
A very big thx goes out to my friend Mikolaj Lewinski, who is a photographer and a big fan of Lego :) He was so kind to photoshop some of my pictures. You can check out more of his work on his Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/fullnilson.project/
Take care everyone, keep building and see you all later!
