Hello fellow viewers of Mocs! Well, here we are, one year on Mocpages...kind of.
About this creation
For the more eagle-eyed viewers out there, you may have gone hunting and realised that this mociversary date is a bit wrong. This is because this was technically my first Moc: The Lonely Walk, posted way back in August 2013.
However, I only posted it to see what the response would be. After posting it, I pretty much forgot about my account, viewing Mocs but never commenting on or liking any of them.
So I while I was on Mocpages, I wasn't 'active' by in means.
Now, here was my next build, the 'Eagle Mech Walker'. Again, I posted this because I wanted to see the response and also to play around with the uploader. However, a similar thing happened: a small response (because I didn't know how groups worked) and I drifted away from the site once again.
Little did I know I was in for a change...
June, 2015. Decisive Action 2: Up from the Ashes. This game changed my attitude towards both building and community within the group. It gave me a chance to join in and converse with like-minded people, something I had never even considered before.
And this, ladies and gents, is what I consider my first REAL Moc, one I put real effort into: My D.A. 2 infantry squad. At the time I was incredibly proud of this little group of figures (even though the lighting is shocking) and was amazed with the amount of comments that flooded in. From then on, I started to expand...
And soon my O.R.B.I.T. (DA2 Moc score-card) filled up with Mocs. Jets, ships, micro scale cities. And the more I built, the more I conversed, the more I contributed to conversation. At one point I had my own thread filled with poems (and rap battles, looking at you Bacca and Caleb). And I was having a great time, intensely waiting for the Attack Window to open, waking up to find a giant lizard knocking on your doorstep or your MILPO suddenly halved.
I was having so much fun that I didn't even mind when I was knocked out, because I'd made friendships and connected with people. I'd made a small name for myself in the community, and I really enjoyed being a part of it all. From now on there would be no drifting away, the Wolff was here to stay.
Soon after, I tried firing up my own story group, The Unlikely Heroes. However, I was a 'tad' ambitious and unfortunately has to close it down due to time constraints and other commitments. Maybe I'll start it up again one day...
After that was the Tourney with the group Wherefore Lego, Romeo? Despite only lasting one round, I still enjoyed the conversations and the stress of staying up veeery late to finish building my entry Moc.
And afterwards I was invited into one of the best groups on the website; the Insurgency. I love this group. So much diversity between stories and yet all still connected.
Once again, I felt I was a part of something bigger than myself, something I enjoyed and wanted to contribute to. And it was here that my passion for writing really took of. I could finally show my stories to others, here their thoughts and fine tune my work to be the best it can be.
In between all that, I leapt into the MocAthalon with the team 'We Will MOCk You!' and once again the pressure was on. Though I only had the time to post a single entry, it was an amazing experience to work with a team again, learning from one another and strengthening mate-ships. We ended up placing 7th out of 20 teams, if my memories correct.
Now for some shout-outs to all those that really made this year for me.
VAkkron: For inviting me onto his teams for The Tourney and the MOCAthalon and for being one of the nicest guys out there. Thank you for sticking with me mate!
Marley Mac: For being one of the first to apply for the Unlikely Heroes and for inviting me into a TI crossover. Thanks for all the comments as well, and for all the incredible writing.
R.K. Blast and IAD: For keeping the Insurgency on all four wheels and continuing to inspire all the story writers out there.
The DA2 staff: As Overlords Goldman and Rutherford have left the site, this thanks goes to Ron L. Mitchell and Matt RowntREE, for kick starting the group and bringing me into such and awesome community (extra thanks to Matt for re-starting the MocAthalon as well :D)
Stuart Lucas: For being with me since DA and for a constant stream of positive comments on builds.
Everyone who has called be a favourite builder and stuck with me: Topsy, Kermunklin, Nick Barrett, David Roberts, Parrington Levens, Royal Brick, the list goes on and on. Thanks for the continued support throughout the year :)
Well, that should do it. Thanks again to the website as a whole for accepting me into the community. Here's to another great year of building!
congrats! and... what a great sig fig, reminds me of doc monster, that, unfortunately is nt here anymore, a great guy, you also have a cool portfolio of nice looking pieces, and, like me, a storyteller, I will try to find some time to check your stories at one point, I m quite fond of these.
Well mate, great to see this day come! I marvel how good of an experience DA2 was. It really did give so many new builders a chance to shine. I don't have much time to write, but I'll just say I hope we can collaborate many more times in the future! You're a great guy and I'm as glad I found you as the other way around. ;) Soon I better get to reading the rest of your TI episodes!!!
A wonderful productive year! And it is interesting to learn how you had a similar experience as me! I think I made my first posts about 10 years ago but I didn't know what I was doing back then, and I definitely didn't realize there was such a vibrant supportive community to dive into :)
I must admit, I hadn't realised you'd been around since '13! Anyways, your building has certainly improved over time and your writing abilities have really taken off in TI. Thank you for continuing to play! Here's to many more years!
Is it just one year? You've had a prodigious & impressive output for a mere 12 months. Your recent Insurgency posts have been packed with photos, which must have taken a good deal of time to do. Keep on building and keep on having fun with Lego :D
