May, 2100 AD. Somewhere on the coast of the Isle of Man, Karadoc Cain and Uncle Angus review defensive preparations...
"You'd better be right about this fool's errand, Angus. I have a lot to do. The latest intelligence from CT Oversight reports that those Metal Legion rebels are planning an imminent assault. We just don't know where, or when."
"Yes boss. And I've doubled coastal patrols to be on the safe side. But until the nobs at CT give us some space cover, we need every edge we can get."
"Ah, hello! Can you see my ionization gauge? I know it's here somewhere."
"Dr. Mannan. I hope this isn't going to be as much of a disaster as your last invention."
"But... but... the atomic hedge trimmer was sound in principle, I think I know what went wrong in the last test and with a little tweaking..."
"A little tweaking?!? Curzon's Farm isn't going to be safe for human habitation for decades!"
"Er boss - didn't you just zone Curzon's Farm to be our POW camp?"
"So? Since we can't use it for anything else..."
"Oh, I get it boss, kill two birds with one stone, hur hur!"
"Angus, stop interrupting. Well Doctor? Forget the hedge trimmer, what's this monstrosity?
"Ah, well! I think you'll like it when you see it in action! You see, Mr. Keane..."
"CAIN! It's LORD Cain!"
"Ah, yes, Sir, well, you see, when I activate the machine, it will make the entire island invisible!"
"Now that I find very unlikely."
"Be that as it may, sir, seeing is believing, or rather, not seeing, haha..."
"Just get on with it."
"Ah, yes, well, I'll just open the seawater intake valve."
"It works perfectly! Instant cloud cover. In a few minutes, and for as long as you like, the Isle will be completely hidden from view from above. Just as in the ancient myths, no invaders will be able to find us!"
"I hate to break this to you, Doctor, but unlike in the ancient myths our enemies now have a little something called RADAR for seeing through clouds. I can see how you might have overlooked it, it's only been around for 150 YEARS!"
"Ah, actually, I thought of that. I added a little chemical mixture of my own to the cloud mix. It scatters electromagnetic radiation of all wavelengths, while the water vapour itself obscures thermal images."
"Boss, that could be tricky. That means that they can't see in but we can't see out either."
"Indeed. Or communicate with our allies, but I don't see that we have much choice. All right, Doctor, I will admit to being slightly impressed. Now get the cloud cover in place and go and start inventing a way for us to see through it!"
Fourth Wall: The idea for this MOC came from the legendary ruler of the Isle of Mann, Manannán, who could hide the island from invaders with his misty cloak. Thank you again Wikipedia!
Living on the edge of the Irish Sea, I can easily believe that there's a machine generating fog, mist amd cloud out there, somewhere. I also like the idea of an atomic hedge trimmer. I'll be needing one in a month's time.
