Fog On The Barrow-Downs
"Cold be hand and heart and bone, and cold be sleep under stone: never more to wake on stony bed, never, till the sun fails and the moon is dead. In the black wind the stars shall die, and still on gold here let them lie, till the dark lord lifts his hand over dead sea and withered land. - J.R.R. Tolkien; The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (page 179)
About this creation
Yeah, MELO Round 2! So my category was Fog On The Barrow-Downs, and having just built one, I decided not to build a Barrow, but the Standing Stones instead. Sorry for the bad pictures. Better ones on the way (More like when I get around to do it)
I've been extremely busy lately between school, track, and just being plain busy.
God luck to my outstanding opponent Bryan Garth, "and may the best Dwarf win!"
Fourth Wall Commentary:
Just a side note, I didn't copy Noel, and I just realized how alike our builds are! Great fog too!
Great job! While I'm a bit disappointed not to see any barrow-wight in this MOC, I love the design and the crooked look of the old pillars. Another outstanding part of your MOC is the fog! You have my vote!
Wonderful builds from both builders! I think you really pulled off the 'fogginess' of the barrow downs, as well as the ruins of Arnor. While I think it would have been nice to have a barrow-wight as your opponent did (we don't get a lot of those), nevertheless you receive my vote!
The landscape is quite lovely with the different colors and all, a good mix! Nice subtle angle for the pillars, it really adds to the build. The added 1x1 trans-clear plates also helps give this build a real "fog" feel on the barrow downs ;)
Nice job on making it to Round 2! Both builds are nice and offer something a bit different. Bryan, I like that you built the actual Barrow and included a nice Barrow Wight minifigure, The stonework is nice, though I feel the cave could have had a bit more of a smooth transition to the ground so it looked more natural. Caleb, I really like the pillars and landscaping in your build! The inclusion of the Hobbits is nice too, though a bit more fog would not have gone amiss. In the end, my vote goes to Caleb because his build was more detailed and interesting. Good luck with the other judges!
Very nice build, especially for a category where there wasn't much to go on. The terrain is really well done, as are the stone pillars. Even though the fog isn't your own idea, you know a good technique when you see one! It really adds a lot!
Fantastic work with this build Caleb! The misty effect coupled with the subdued multi-colored terrain makes for an excellent visual masterpiece. The slight tilt to the stones looks great as well. I'm a-thinking that these guys are going to need Tom Bombadil pretty soon ;) God bless and keep on brickin'! ~Promar~
