MA 2016: Uncle Sam's TV Habits
About this creation
Team name: The MocAthalon group with a name, so secret, that even it's members can't know it, only if they say the password and tough their own big toe, they can hear it if they listen very carefully, cause it will be said only once
Category: 5) The New Yorker:
Create a political comic in Lego that satirizes the current political landscape. Scathing is perfectly acceptable and there is more than ample material to choose from
Here goes...
People: we are scared of the truth, we want to believe that everything is okay and we cover up anything that we can to be able to feel that way. When bad news comes on we either watch and wonder how the heck other people could let that happen (even though we do have a part somehow, even if it is teeny) or we change the channel and laugh at some guy named Timmy Stallon: in order to cover up the truth.
America: We think that we're the "perfect country" (not me!) and nothing is wrong. When we see a shooting, or some other tragedy, we blame it on the guns, not neccessarily the people holding the guns (gun laws could slow shootings down, but if a mass murderer wants to murder people, why should a law get in his way? He's breaking the law already by murdering people), or else we change the channels and focus on the great American Comedy known as Donald Trump!
America needs to wake up, and accept the truth. We are not the "perfect country" we have major problems that have existed all of earth's days. Just because the problems are as old as mankind doesn't mean they can't be stopped or even hindered. Politics can't do it for us, though, mankind's issues are dependent on mankind: on you and me. Small things from one person can inspire small things from everyone, eventually turning into one major cause. The first thing we need to do, though, is to accept the truth, and then get going.

The remote and "Uncle Sam's" hand.

Very nice build and FP. Only, I wish the TV was turned to "The Great American Comedy"... ;)

It's also handy to be able to shoot rodents when necessary. Actually, just shoot AT them. They're really hard to hit. But I keep trying. That's what cool about living in Vermont, we have absolutely NO gun laws. None. Oh yeah, Google "safest state in america". Bam: Vermont. Not a coincidence. Rodents beware. Congrats on the scores!!

(The article didn't work on my outdated computer) Let's not debate: let's be honest, neither of us are going to change our minds. I'd still like to be able to somewhat protect myself, because my rinky-dink town doesn't have a police department.

Not quite: http://www.salon.com/2013/01/11/stop_talking_about_hitler/ ; nor is it really comparable since the gun culture in America (which I'd say is one of the "problems within ourselves" that you mentioned) is so much more extreme than that in the rest of the world.

Quoting Bane Of Seagulls (James) Also, one thing - gun laws do affect mass shootings, look at the numbers of mass shootings that occur in countries where gun laws are illegal and compare that to America's.
Yes, but the first step that Hitler took when he gained control of Germany was to create strict gun laws. Most other dictators have done this too. It's part of an American's freedom

Extremely insightful, fully deserving of all the fives. Absolutely love it! Really great political statement, not just a dig at a figure which is what a lot of people have gone for. Also, one thing - gun laws do affect mass shootings, look at the numbers of mass shootings that occur in countries where gun laws are illegal and compare that to America's.

A good political cartoon pokes fun at politics; a great one pokes fun at ourselves. I don't think you realize how truthful your statement unfortunately is. Score = 5+

Awesome, and gruesome as well... I think the US would do good by focusing their politics more on internal matters than external.

Great forced perspective, and you described the build very well. This is my favorite concept thus far in this category.

Nice. The TV is definitely the highlight of this, particularly the scene that is depicted on the screen. It looks very convincing. The message is also portrayed well.
