Hoplite series V1.7 ('Defender' variant) battle mech
I present to you the V1.7 'Hoplite' battle mech. It can also be considered the original defense specialized mech of mine that has likely started a whole series of Hoplite mechs. Hence the designation of Defender variant.
About this creation
I first started building this general size of Mecha in mid 2010 when I was 16 years old. This version of the Hoplite was completed by late 2012.

As of February 2015(when I finally got to take pictures), it has since been dismantled in favor of a significantly updated replacement which should hopefully and finally be completed in the next month.

After the first 'Sasquatch' mech was made late 2010(based on the Atas from Mechassault, sorry, I didn't get to take pictures!), in 2011, I wanted to make a heavyweight defense mech with an Armored Core style equipment setup that has a bit of a space marine theme in art style and look, as well as have the MOC be fully posable and functional for play.

The final and more decisive space marine look was inspired by the Prototype from Halo Legends. Add that to the Armored Core style equipment setup and my general inexperience with building mecha and you have the Hoplite.

>Now for some sort of back story discription:

My goal with the ASA (Adaptably Specialized Armada) is to prepare any and all units for as many situations and combat scenarios possible, giving them maximum adaptability to overcome almost any problem.

The Hoplite V1.7 Defender variant is no exception, but an example set for other units, especially since it slowly became the basis for my(Mini-SMARTAN 427's) own personal battle mech.

With that in mind, the Hoplite is an Apex class of mecha designed to survive where even Cruise Missiles struggle to go. For such extreme engagement scenarios, it is crucial that the Hoplite be ready for nearly anything.

Designed with the intention of single handedly holding out for extended periods of time against seemingly impossible odds to secure a position or asset, the Hoplite V1.7 Defender variant is spec'd as follows:

Operated via Neuromechanical interface, with the pilot sealed inside the armored torso chassis protected from the outside environment, the pilot relies on the sensors found in the mecha's armored head(two communication antennae and two radomes serving as 'ears' with various other imaging sensors supporting the red primary optics visor) to receive external information from its surroundings.

The base Hoplite model is equipped with two Ion Engine Thrusters, two Anti-Gravity Levitation Field Emitters, two primary Energy Shield Generators, one medium supercharged Plasma Reactor, two micro Plasma Reactors, and two auxiliary Microwave Rayguns on each forearm(so that the mecha always has at least one form of ranged attack).

Standard external weapons armament consist of a right hand 4-barreled Gauss Gattling Gun(GGG), a left hand Plasma Concentrator Cannon (PCC), 32 Surface-to-Surface/Air-Missiles(SSAMs), and a Compact Laser Guided Heavy Railgun(CLGHR).

Armed and ready for anything, the Hoplite has proven itself reliable on the harshest of battlefields.

It turns out that the previous experimental tests on improving the old Sasquatch mech were not in vain.

>End primary backstory discription.

Front view, armed.

Back view, armed.

Left side view, armed.

Right side view, armed.

The Hoplite's primary weapon, its right hand four barreled Gauss Gattling Gun. To imagine just how OverPowered this weapon is supposed to be, I will tell you this. If you have ever played the Halo video game series, take the Warthog Anti-Armor Gauss Gun and give it three extra continually pre-charged barrels to allow for rapid fire devastation, and that is pretty much what the Hoplite has. Very versatile with a high ammunition capacity, and can effectively engage many different types of targets.

The Hoplite's left hand secondary weapon, the Plasma Concentrator Cannon. The whole purpose of this weapon is to act like a giant version of the Halo Plasma Pistol, charging up a huge ball of plasma to completely wipe out enemy energy shields in just one or two shots, or just straight up melting unshielded targets. And yes, the look is inspired by the Halo Plasma Rifle, with the antennae helping to direct the magnetic fields containing the supercharged plasma bolts.

The Hoplite's primary back-mounted long range support weapon, a Compact Laser Guided Heavy Railgun. This cannon uses magnets to launch superdense metal projectiles at hypersonic speeds, absolutely tearing right through nearly anything it hits. Can be used to overpenetrate multiple targets. The Railgun can fold into its stored position, Armored Core style.

The Hoplite's primary anti-air weapons system, a compact missile pod that launches SSAMs(Surface-to-Surface/Air-Missiles). Firing up to four at a time, this Missile Pod can carry a total of thirty-two compact tracking warheads. Although it is primarily installed for anti-air defense, it is also easily used for fast moving ground based targets as well.

The Hoplite's pair of Flight/Power Packs, featuring two supercharged Ion Engine Thrusters for flight propulsion, each connected to an Anti-Gravity Levitation Field Emitter(for hovering mid-air and gliding along the ground), as well as one primary Energy Shield Generator each, to provide regenerative protection for the Hoplite. The Flight/Power Pack can also be used for its own pair of micro Plasma Reactors as auxiliary power for the Hoplite's primary Plasma Reactor.

Well, I think that is it for the closeups--wait!

Hey, look at that!

It has awesome looking hand articulation!

The inner two studs allow the Hoplite to firmly hold weapons in its hands.

I am particularly proud of the hand design, especially since when first shown, my mother said that they looked like 'terminator hands'.

I haven't quite seen a design like this for mecha hands across the Pages yet, so until proven wrong, I take at least a little credit for the design!

So please don't clench your fists at me!

I'm just giving you a heads up.

Lol, I'm just kidding.

The '1.7' number of this version is because due to weight issues with the old, worn joints, the original finished MK 1/V1 Hoplite would crumple under its own weight, especially when trying to pose it, so I had to trim down and redesign most of the model, eventually calling it done after about 70% of the mech was overhauled. Only the lower legs (calves and feet), the shoulders, and some of its weapons are V1. The rest is V2. And since it is not 100% V2, I like to say that it is about V1.7, 30% away from being fully V2.

Front view, unarmed. Can you guess how I made the 'floating' shoulder armor pads?

Back view, unarmed. Admittedly not the best view, in my opinion.

Left and right side views, unarmed.

I particularly like the silhouette from the side angles in these pics.

Top view, unarmed. I quite like the silhouette from this angle as well.

The waist is supported by a single technic peg, which easily complements the sideways studded V2 torso build, which is a lot lighter weight than the V1 torso's studs face up build.

Were you wondering if it could hold a minifigure pilot, and where that pilot would be seated? Well yes, and here he is.

The pilot, Mini-SMARTAN 427, with his helmet on. The Halo Reach decals are bought from and produced by Justin Saber-Scorpion Stebbins, from www.saber-scorpion.com.

Mini-SMARTAN 427 with his helmet off. He is equipped with a modifiable Gauss Assault Rifle(with scope and under barrel Grenade Launcher) and a Railgun Precision Pistol.

Anyway, back to the Hoplite.

'That's the titan droppin!' -said a fellow friend referring to the Titanfall video game, when he saw this pic.

Speaking of dropping, how many mech MOCs can successfully perform and self support such an awesome 'Ground Pound Stance'? By far my favorite pic of the Hoplite.

A few more pics rotating the Hoplite in its 'Ground Pound Stance'.

The Hoplite is named after the class of ancient Spartan Warriors, who with just 300 soldiers defended against and defeated thousands upon thousands of Persian warriors.

Just imagine what 300 of these giant mechanized 'Hoplites' could defend against!

Quoting Jack Sparrow I really like this! The overall colour scheme and design kind of remind me of the Tallgeese II from MSGW. The pose-ability is also well done. I look forward to seeing what else comes out of your page! :-)
Hey, thanks for commenting! So I decided to Google that Tallgeese II and was kind of surprised to hear of a resemblance. However, my original inspirations for this Hoplite V1.7 were the Atlas(Mechassault/Mechwarrior), especially for my previous Sasquatch battle mech, the blockier tankier looking Armored Core style mechs, and the final inspiration was the HRUNTING/YGGDRASIL Mark I Prototype Armor Defense System (Halo Legends). The incoming successor to the Hoplite V1.7 however, draws a bit more from the Anime side, and certainly now does remind me of that Tallgeese II, however, any Gundam that I would like the most would have to be HeavyArms.

Quoting J Cooper Only ONE other person liked this? Unbelievable. That said, you did really good work with this, and I'm sure your new one will be even better!
Thank you so much for being the first person to comment on my first MOC to be posted. After a month of waiting, it made my day yesterday to finally see a comment, and a very positive one at that! Also, nice to meet a fellow Christian Lego fan. I am one as well! :)

Finally, I think that I figured it out! I managed to get all reasonably clear pictures uploaded and I was able to arrange them the way that I wanted. The page is complete! After years of putting it off frustrated, I finally got to share this MOC! I feel so satisfied. Now to get my other MOCs uploaded...

Yes! I think that I may have finally found a solution to my uploading problem! I have to resize and shrink the photos before I upload them. Now to figure out how to properly align them the way I want to so that the page doesn't look so silly...

I apologize for the lack of pictures currently. I was only able to take pictures with my phone and I do not have a computer. Therefore, I am having a lot of trouble getting the pictures uploaded. Trust me I have quite a few! Hopefully there will soon be much more than just the one main picture...
