MELO R1: "He is a skin-changer."
About this creation
Built for: 2016 Middle Earth Lego Olympics

This round's category is: Build anything from The Hobbit. Whether you build from the movies or the books does not matter, just give us your interpretation of a scene from the Hobbit.

I chose to build Beorn's house, and I based it off of the book.

Some overviews of the house. The roof is made of nets.

Here are a couple of the very large bees that Beorn keeps-

-in his very large beehives. These things are FRAGILE, I'll go into more detail on them later.

The house also has an interior, and Beorn's sheep servants! They are mentioned in the book, but the movie sadly does not include them, so I thought it would be fun to add them in mine. They are my own design, as are the bees.

Builder's commentary: This one was a lot of fun, and I think one of my best yet. As I mentioned the roof uses nets to create a more realistic thatched look, the idea to use them is not mine, however, as I was originally inspired by Luke Watkins. As I also mentioned, the bee hives are pretty complex and fragile items. The book says they are bell shaped, so I did my best to represent that here.

The roof's construction consists of 4 clips attached to a 1x1 brick with studs on all sides on top a jumper. You then take the curved plates and put a 1x1 plate and a different clip on the back, and attach it to the hive. Then you lay reddish brown bars with clips attached to them to fill in the gaps.

Please let me know what you think!

That wall is outstanding. Very realistic looking, especially with the curves. Great beehives as well!

Yet ANOTHER entry based on Beorn's house. Well, you know what thy say - "Great minds think alike." Anyway, I think this is awesome, and I love you went for a very movie accurate exterior and very book accurate interior!

Quoting Cameron Wilson This is brilliant! Well done! My only criticism would be to add more variety on the path. Other than that, this is amazing! =)
Thank you! For the path, I was trying to make it look like it was made of gravel, but I definitely would have added more variation otherwise. Thanks again!

Quoting Hildigrim Took Awesome work man! I really like the wall, very accurate to the movie ;) the roofs are really nice too, I'm not a big fan of the mix of fleshies and yellowies but that's just me being nit-picky ;P Great work!
Thanks! Yeah, I should have added this to the description, but I decided to go with more of a wall then a hedge, due to the fact that I just don't have enough leaves. Yeah, I agree with the fig thing, I don't have a Beorn fig though, so this was the best I could do with what I have.
