8 foot 9 inch tall Tower of Orthanc with a fully decorated and lighted interior. The scale is 1/65th scale to the height of the tower as recorded in the novels.
About this creation
I built this between 2014 and 2015 and first displayed it at Brickworld Chicago in 2015. It contains over 75,000 bricks and took several hundred hours to plan and build. The Tower is fully lighted and has a staircase that connects all the floors all the way to the roof. Every floor is fully furnished. The design was inspired by several sources including the movie, illustrations, and the book. In the end though, it is my original interpretation of what I thought the tower might of looked like and I ended up diverging from many previous illustrations of the tower with my own ideas. For instance, I felt that a wider pinnacle/crown made my tower more imposing and I felt that was the intent of such a tower in the first place. These are a few of the many pictures I have taken. More are on my flickr page.
Quoting Hildigrim Took
Wow. This is crazy! What convention did you take it to? So good, I really really like it!
So far I've taken it to Brickworld Chicago 2015, Cincinnati Comic Con, and Brickworld Indy 2016, I have also expanded the landscape to a full circle around the tower and am in the process of doing a transition to the desolation and mines of Isengard on that side including a cut away of the mines underneath the custom display table as well as the last march of the Ents and Gandalf escaping on an Giant Eagle. It will be back in Chicago in June 2016 hopefully with some of those additions finished.
