A second and final contribution for FebRovery 2016. Enjoy!
About this creation
Following up on the less-than-stellar performance of their first self-balancing monowheel design, Beyond Midnight Engineering decided to throw good money after bad and try to improve the formula.
The 'Megalithic MonoWheel' (sold in Europe as the Monolithic MegaWheel) was their next attempt.
Initial trials proved highly successful provided that the 2 occupants were of exactly the same weight. After a short-lived campaign to market the vehicle to identical twins, the outer stabilizers were added, even though they had a negative impact on top speed and maneuvrability.
Nevertheless, speed was the MMW's greatest problem - once it exceeded a certain velocity, the huge wheel's momentum made it almost impossible to stop safely, as this archive footage shows.
