...soon an Autobot will rise from our ranks and use the power of the Matrix to light our darkest hour...
About this creation
In North America, in the summer of 1986, those of us who are old enough to remember have never forgotten the slaughter of innocent Autobots and our first Transformer toys by the hands of the ruthless Megatron, his Decepticons and Hasbro Execs wanting to sell us a new wave of Transformers toys. We saw cartoon violence in a new light before the desensitisation of violence in cartoons seen today. Heroes never died did they? The most profound impact of this loss of innocence was the death of one of our heroes. Optimus Prime. His death scene in the 1986 movie has scarred a generation of original Trans Fans and erupted in a cry (quite literally) to Hasbro to bring back our hero This is my homage to this moment in Transformer Fandom history.

This Lego Sleep Convoy (Dead Optimus Prime, Zombie Optimus whatever you want to call him) is a modified design of my OP-04 G1 Lego fully transforming Optimus Prime design complete with battle damage modifications, repair bay bed, matrix of leadership and vital sign monitor. I am thinking this will make a great display for Brickfete this year with his legoformer comrades surrounding him. What do you think?

You sum up so well our state of ming back in time. Stunnnig tribute for a dark period. And yes, it was the end of a certain innocence...

true - but at least his death was less drawn out - but still crazy for a kids cartoon of the time
Quoting Justin Davies I think it was more the execution-style point-blank blast to the head from Megatron's fusion cannon that Ironhide received that always bothered me more...

Super build, the thumbnail shot instantly reminded me of that scene. They can't kill the big hero in the first act of the movie? Can they??? (Mind you, he'd already apparently died and then recovered a couple of times in the magazine by the time I saw the movie).

My innocence was forever lost the day I saw that scene. I guess old scars never fully heal. Great build though! You've really captured the moment!

Wrong death. Needs to be Orion Pax returning from the comics. -100/5. (But seriously nice MOC)

Hasbro execs - who needs 'em? Optimus Prime was the BEST leader. Never did like Rodimus Prime - they could have named him better... anyway, great tribute, boss.
