With this MOC, I have spent more hours than I care to count, to come up with a functional design to replicate a Battle Droid rack in minifig scale.
This entails having the rack be able to store 112 neatly folded up, minifig battle droids with infantry backpacks (tan 1x2 plate) and blasters, as well as being able to unload the droids in much the same way that we see in episode 1 during "The battle of Naboo"
I must have watched that particular scene at least 50 times to fully understand the mechanism.
It was also a criteria that all the droids were spaced in such a way that they would be the same distance from each other when unloaded, but also very compact when stored on the rack. This was difficult to get just right.
For the design to work, the droids need to be able to both pivot and swivel freely with little friction while on the rack, so that thanks to gravity they stay level at all times when they are unloaded from the rack, by turning the liftarms 90 degrees.
The hinges are actually key pieces as they hold the technic liftarms together as well as securing the beams when in upright position.
This droid rack could actually hold an additional 16 battle droids in the lowest row but as per Incredible Cross section, it's supposed to be 8 battle droids in 7 rows times 2 sides=112
